I've actually been itching to re-declutter my own household. And re-inventory. Yes, I have a list of everything I own...everything. But I don't have pictures (insurance purposes), so that's where I need to start. Can you tell I barely keep my OCD in check? LOL! How do you feel about inventorying somewhere around 12,000 books? Or trying to pry me away from the kitchen and the computer to de-clutter? (Hey, I'm proud of myself. There are rumors that there might be a desk under the paper and stuff. I've gotten rid of three large trash cans full of old catalogs and things this week....) — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund Babette the Foundling Beagle

It is quite handy to be able to do a quick search on something instead of paging through the book. I bet a lot of people would be interested if it was officially made into an e-book. Likewise, and I think people WOULD be interested in an e-copy. Since I've bought a copy of each edition since 2001, I'm not too worried about not covering the cost of my information. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund Babette the Foundling Beagle

Maybe I should have been a librarian? Did I mention that I also have several dog-sitting references? Violet the dachshund would vouch that I do a great job of laying on the couch watching tv, with dogs piled on/around me ;-). But at least you're making progress! They say to tackle one drawer a day, or to set aside 20 or 30 minutes a day to declutter. Before you know it, things are looking great! Then you'll have room to buy more book and more kitchen gadgets... Actually, prior to Hurricane Katrina, a friend who was out of work was exchanging inventory services for room and board. Unfortunately, Katrina put and end to that, and what we've added since.... I'm sure the Dachshund Duo and the Babble Beagle would love an extra pair of hands to pay attention to them. I periodically make progress... but there's so MUCH that I get bored and then go off and do something I enjoy, like writing or cooking. All of my books, games, CDs, etc. are arranged alphabetically too! The only problem is, pets don't believe in organization. I get my bird's house/gym all cleaned up and her toys all put away, and she comes in and trashes the place in 10 minutes (papers shredded, toys tossed, food flung). I get all of the dogs toys put away in his basket, and 10 minutes later, the basket is empty and toys are in every room of the house (even the bathroom). They're worse then kids! Lol! Bibliophiles are even worse than pets. I tend to haul out books for research and they pile up and up and up on my desk. Like the time I had just gotten a new shipment of books from Rocky Mountain books. Harry came in, and saw one of the new ones placed precariously on top of the stack, ready Precipitate All On the Floor, and collapsed into his chair laughing. The title of the new book? There would be no time left for decluttering ;-). TWO bibliophiles. Harry proposed by suggesting that we merge our libraries. Up until Katrina, I had a really nice Guatemalan lady, Zoila, who came every Friday and decluttered and cleaned. She would gather up everything that wasn't where it should be, pile it on the dining table and tell me, " You. Sit. Sort. I clean. I do not sort. Throw away! " and then about every hour, she would come buy and empty the trash can next to me, and if I was getting distracted, she would scold me. I miss Zoila! (She had a second floor apartment... and four feet of water in the apartment. Her daughter kidnapped her and took her off to live in Washington, DC). A weekly decluttering made a difference... I love to cook and write, but I hate to clean! Just no patience for it. Zoila hated to cook, but loved to clean. She was a true professional in her approach to cleaning and would do anything at all you wanted her to. Alas, she was my mother's age and, like Mama, long gone. There will never be another Opal just as I suspect you are having trouble finding another Zoila. But we can dream! Absolutely we can dream. I miss Zoila -- she was a member of the family. I used to pick her up in the morning, and Harry would drive her home at night... and usually take her by the grocery store on the way so that she did not have to carry her weekly groceries by hand from the store to her apartment. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund Babette the Foundling Beagle
