Guest guest
Hi All...........I am in need of some info pretty quickly. My friend and fellow WLS patient had a hysterectomy Friday. I just got back from vaca a few minutes ago to an urgent phone call from her. Seems her blood counts are very low (she didn't know the #) and they want to transfuse her.....she won't let them. They gave her an iron pill to start on, but this is where my question comes in. I was telling her that I know us WLS people can only " utilize " one or two kinds of oral iron.........I just don't know which ones......I told her I would post and ask you all for help......I am going to go back and search the post too if I can.....been having serious puter problems.....in the meantime trying to unpack and get the kiddos ready for school in the morning........when it rains it pours..............thanks..... Guest guest
, Ferrous fumerate Ferrous gluconate Carbonyl iron NO ferrous sulfate But why aren't the giving her IV iron? That is not the same as a blood transfusion, and it would probably really help her. Guest guest
My ferritin was in the toilet, and they want to try oral iron first before the infusions. Probably side effects, costs, etc. Then they told me you could get it all at once, or in a series. The hematologist said the series had fewer side effects. I'm a do-it-now kind of guy and wanted an infusion, but haven't gotten one yet. BTW, I'm taking Niferex iron elixir.....one ounce a day in a shot glass with about an ounce of orange juice. I take it with a straw in the back of my throat to avoid staining teeth. The poop! I *still* want infusions. in Austin RNY April 1998 RE: PLEASE HELP--Iron ?? > , > > Ferrous fumerate > Ferrous gluconate > Carbonyl iron > NO ferrous sulfate > > But why aren't the giving her IV iron? Guest guest
I got the infusions after about a year of trying other methods and 4 months after the infusions, my ferritin and iron are both doing well! I know that I'll have to have IV iron periodically forever, but knowing that there's a solution to my iron problem that works is very comforting. The infusions are no big deal, and you get to take a nap after the Benadryl they give you first. ---------------------------------------- Terry Mayers 5DollarHosting.com http://www.5dollarhosting.com .... because it shouldn't cost a fortune to make a fortune!
