Guest guest
The other Rx irons my docs use are Trinsicon (a lil less iron, but similar formula) or Niferex Forte. If those become hard to get, the only other one I know is Niferex (no forte) and it is OTC, though not readily available. Those are the big guns in mg. Chromagen is still available in these parts. Is it just YOUR pharmacy? Iron question > Hey everybody, > > Can anyone help me? I was originally on Theragran Hematinic and my drug company stopped carrying it and now they've discontinued carrying my Chromagen Forte. Any recommendations for a good iron, on a par with the Chromagen? Guest guest
Dear Michele, Thanks for the answer on the Niferex Forte. I'll ask him for that one. I use Advance PCX for my 3 month supply of prescriptions. They are the ones my insurance will cover (unless I want to go locally and pay a monthly co-pay). I'm sure it's just them. They say they (the pills) are on manufacturer back-order indefinitely (I've been waiting 2 months for them already and have another month to go yet, but if they're not going to come in -- and it seems that they're not -- then I want to have a substitute in place before it becomes an issue.) Thanks again for your help. live each day like it's your last... love like you've never been hurt... Guest guest
Les, I could certainly be wrong about this, but I was on the NF script from Dr. G briefly too (same dosage as you), and I seem to recall that formulation was a time release med. ???? Guest guest
Beth, I can only tell you what Dr. Gagner prescribed for me as a 150 cm bypassed RNY...150 mg Niferex Forte twice a day. It's a scrip, though. If your friend is hesitant about the volume of mail, you can suggest either the digest (yeah, I know) or she can go " No mail " and read directly from the Yahoo home page at her convenience. in NJ ************************** > I mentioned to her that she should be taking either Ferrous Fumerate or Carbonyl iron. She's asked about the Fumerate: is it > prescription only or OTC? I know that Carbonyl can be bought OTC. She's also asked about ballpark figures for dosages. Can any of you help? >
Guest guest
Tara, I don't know specifically about Feosol, but I would suggest you take it as directed for 1 day, with Vit C, and not within 2 hours of anything other vits, especially calcium. I'm suggesting for 1 day because some irons can really make you feel not so good. If it doesn't bother your tummy, then maybe up the dose, but I don't know by how much...hopefully, someone else does. Iron is a strange thing. Good luck, in NJ
Guest guest
Really?? Never realized that! So, what are you taking now, and did he tell you to change it? My Ferritin has been slowly dropping, but I thought the fact that I wasn't taking it as prescribed might be the cause of it. When this scrip runs out, though, I planned on asking my PCP for Chromagen Forte. I've been very tired, but I just don't sleep through the night anymore since menopause, so who knows. But, I just have a feeling. My next labs are right after New Year's, so we shall see. in NJ ******************** > Les, I could certainly be wrong about this, but I was on the NF script from Dr. G briefly too (same dosage as you), and I seem to recall that formulation was a time release med. ???? > > Lucille >
Guest guest
I hate when I sort of remember something but I'm not sure, so I did a little checking and Niforex Forte 150 is an " extended release " iron supplement. Now, is extended release same thing as time release? Beats the you know what outta me. Anyone out there know? My understanding was that Dr. Gagner starts all his patients on the Chromagen Forte 300 mgs a day (which he did me, I just couldn't tolerate it.) He tried me on the Niforex when I wasn't handling the Chromagen. Couldn't handle the Niforex either. Now I'm taking Carbonyl (200 mgs) but my ferritin is slipping too. Just spoke to the dietician last week and we decided (this was my idea actually) to retry the Chromagen when things calm down with me from my upcoming plastics. I figured now that I'm 2 years out, maybe I will be able to tolerate it??? Nothing ventured nothing gained. The Chromagen seems to be the big guns, so if it works for you that will be terrific.
