Guest guest
Matt, I take it that you aren't running any fever? I haven't had the throat pain, although this last month my parotid gland alongside my left ear to upper jaw- is swollen enough to make me look like a chipmunk. It's not painful, but the swelling is enough to make that side of my face numb. Throat pain sounds like an infection-- is it possible that the immunosuppressants you're on are masking a problem? For me, I run a low-grade fever daily-- and if my temp gets up to 98.6-- I'm sick-- very sick. Your docs need to NOT go by blood tests-- immunosuppressants will keep your white cell counts low, so a "normal" count is indicitive of infection. You will have to educate them on this-- so keep this in mind. I found that I do have to REMIND my MD every time- that as we know, NORMAL is not my normal-- LOW is my normal- and a temperature increase from 97.2 to 98.6 is the same as a 101 on a healthy person with an infection. In the meantime-- do some warm saltwater gargles, as often as you need to and get back in- if you're feeling worse than what is normal for you. Guest guest
Matt, I have the same problem........mine is weird as I will have this for a few days and then it just goes away......but then it comes back a few days later. My Doctor has no idea what it is either. I know this does not help much, but I wanted you to know you are not alone in this. It is probably just the old Sarc Monster raising his ugly head but it would be nice to find something to help tolerate it a little. Like you said, the pain is there and it is real. Guest guest
Tracie, I am glad you mentioned the temperature thing.........I have the same problem - I have always had a low temperature and really low blood pressure and when the old Sarc Monster started rearing his ugly head, both my blood pressure and temperature went up. So, like you, when my temp says 98.6, I am actually sick but the nurse and doc says it is normal! Same way with the blood pressure....I am on meds for it and when I see the doc, the nurse takes my bp and says, "good, it is down and a good reading".....when actually it is high for me and I take my meds faithfully. It is hard for us to fight the Sarc Monster and the Doctors too! I wish they knew more about this Sarc. It is sad that it seems like we know more than the Docs do. I had a little incident with my Doc just a few weeks ago. I mentioned a couple of problems I was having and told Doc I thought I was having a flare up and his comment was "Just what makes you think it is Sarc?? You should not put the blame on Sarc for every problem you have" !! I told him that I was Co-Owner of a list with 600+ members on it from all over the world and most of us have the same symptoms at one time or another and that could not be just a co-incidence! Needless to say, I left mad... Sad that our medical field does not know more about Sarc........... Guest guest
Matt, I also get pain occasional much worse on one side of my body (arm, hip, leg etc) then it goes away. Before I joined this group i thought I was crazy. I've been dealing with people in pain my whole adult life and this made no sense. My mail Sarc Doc is my Pulmonologist who is one of these guys that believes sarc is a 'painless" disease! Guest guest
My pain is more so on the entire left side of the body when it occurs. Like everyone else, it stays for awhile and then it's gone ... foot, leg, thigh, side, back, arms and hands: oh, and let's not forget the fingers!! Sometimes Ibuprofen works ... sometimes it doesn't!! -Maye (Baltimore MD)To: Neurosarcoidosis Sent: Thu, May 20, 2010 11:35:28 AMSubject: Re: pain question Matt, I also get pain occasional much worse on one side of my body (arm, hip, leg etc) then it goes away. Guest guest
Hey Matt, Been out of town, I always have some degree of pain on the left side of my body always. I don't have throat pain, although have trouble swallowing at time, and when drinking fluid will run out the right side of my mouth, and sometimes, (and boy this is fun) for no reason at all, when I have a mouth full of food, will just spit it out. I have no visible paralysis on the left side of my face, but that side of my face is numb all the time, sometimes so numb it is very painful. What does my doc say, NS. I have noticed that all those symptoms have been better since the Remicade, although still happen, less frequent, mostly when tired. Matt, are you on anything like Remicade, or those other drugs, I wonder if that would be a good thing to try? I know the pain can be awful and nothing much takes it away, except putting heat on it, makes it better. I'm sorry your having so many problems, boy do I wish they would come up with a magic drug for us, don't we all right? Thinking of you always, Marla are you coming out this way this summer? Hi I was wondering if anyone else has had pain on one side of there body and or severe throat pain. I have pain all up and down my right side and a throat pain for several days that even pain meds does not seem to help. Went to doc and as usual they have no idea what is going on. Guest guest
I have the same issue with Temp and BP, and your right it's sad that we have to educate them. If my Temp is 98.6 that too is high for me, and when I tell the nurse she looks at me " like right " . I have been lucky my Sarc docs listen to me. I saw a new PA at my Pulmonologist, I had a bad case of Bronchitis, and he believed me about the temp. Then he asked me if I had any lesions, and I said ya about 3 different types, I thought of course he was like testing me, and he said can I see them, I've never seen any Sarc lesions before. So then when I told him I needed IV steroids along with my Antibiotic, he said OK let me check with the doc. When he came back in, he said the doc never heard of this, I said ya there's only one doc I see here that knows anything about Sac. So he asked me, what kind, where, and then called my doc, came in and said, He my doc, said he could believe anything I said, to do steroids, and to tell me Hi. I wish I could share my doc with all of you, he learned all about Sarc together with me over the past 16 years, and we learned a lot right here, with Tracie, Rose, , etc. Great sources right here. oops sorry to rattle on. I do have to laugh at a doc calling himself a Sarcoidologist:) I would say the we are the Sarcoidologist, right! Good days to all, Marla   Tracie, I am glad you mentioned the temperature thing.........I have the same problem - I have always had a low temperature and really low blood pressure and when the old Sarc Monster started rearing his ugly head, both my blood pressure and temperature went up. So, like you, when my temp says 98.6, I am actually sick but the nurse and doc says it is normal! Same way with the blood pressure....I am on meds for it and when I see the doc, the nurse takes my bp and says, " good, it is down and a good reading " .....when actually it is high for me and I take my meds faithfully. It is hard for us to fight the Sarc Monster and the Doctors too! I wish they knew more about this Sarc. It is sad that it seems like we know more than the Docs do. I had a little incident with my Doc just a few weeks ago. I mentioned a couple of problems I was having and told Doc I thought I was having a flare up and his comment was " Just what makes you think it is Sarc?? You should not put the blame on Sarc for every problem you have " !!  I told him that I was Co-Owner of a list with 600+ members on it from all over the world and most of us have the same symptoms at one time or another and that could not be just a co-incidence! Needless to say, I left mad... Guest guest
Hi all, I dont post often but try to read everything as often as my eyes will allow me Anyway in all the years since I got the DX of neurosarc when I lived in NY (I live in NC now) I never knew about the temp/bp thing. I too have a normal temp of 97.2 or 97.4 and a normal bp of 100/60.....I have gone to the moron PA here and she sees my temp of 99 and says oh thats barely a fever and when my bp is 120/90 she said thats not bad at all. Tell me oh wise ones on the board is this another subtle sign of neurosarc, having a normal low temp and bp? I just had my first ACE level blood test in about 8 years and it was at 94- and again the genius said well thats BARELY elevated??? WHAT?? She is a PA, there is no Dr. in my town, and she doesn't care to take the time to review my records from NY or the time to research what neurosarc can do to you I pray that God sends a neurologist to the ville NC area that has a clue about neurosarcoisosis God hear my prayer oh and btw make sure they contact me- I am sick and tired of trying to find them!! Guest guest
Matt, I do get throat pain. But, only when I yawn. I can't stand it as it appears that all the muscles tighten and I have to physically massage it to stop. So I know a yawn is coming, I know exactly what is going to happen and I do not want the yawn to start. It hurts so much as the muscles just won't let up. Not sure if this is what you are experiencing but it sure is painful. Kathy
