sara -

i'm so excited for you! it sounds like you had a busy day...but it's

so thrilling to know it's almost here! and not having to have both

jaws moved is wonderful :o) my surgeon said post op is much easier

with only one jaw being moved (although he might have just been trying

to make me feel better). i'm almost jealous of your hooks. i don't

have any yet - and the surgery is quickly approaching. supposedly the

splint won't be in until friday - so my next ortho appt isn't until

monday. i'm starting to get a little nervous that there won't be

enough time...although i'm sure they know what they're doing...or at

least i hope.

i hadn't really realized that the surgery was so soon until today when

i was discussing experiment planning with my undergraduate. i

realized that i will only be in work for five more days (i took off

mon for my birthday...sort of streched how long the ortho appt was :o)

i have a lot to wrap up before then! how long will you be able to

take off? i know i'm out for at least two weeks - but because of the

graft they said i might need more. my boss has already said i can

take as much time as needed - and when i start to go back i can just

do a couple hours a day. i guess being a graduate student really has

its perks sometimes :o) on the fifth week i'm hoping to head to the

jersey shore with my family...but we'll see if i'm up to it...

have a safe flight to la!

Carol, Becky and ,

Thanks for your well wishes and words of encouragement. It does feel

good to have *checked* these last pre-op appts off the list. However,

I think I am still in denial about the fact that my surgery will be

this Monday. Either that or I am incredibley calm about all of this,

which would not be a bad thing.

I arrived in LA this morning and the sun was no where to be seen.

Luckily it has come back out to greet me. Had the most delicious

healthy lunch but got most of it stuck in my hooks. , I know

exactly what you meant now. I've had my brother plan out a set of

yummy meals for the next three meals. I am calling it my " last

suppers " before the day. Lol. One has to find the humor in it all.

Honestly, I am just thankful that the waiting will soon be over and

that I am that much closer to the other side.

Becky - as I've just finished my master's at Columbia I am lucky

enough to be able to take off most of the summer to recover, or

rather, i can't start interviewing for a job for a while as I doubt

I'll be presentable or able to talk for at least the first three

weeks (presentable to people that have never met me before I mean).

To tide me over I've found a short term consultancy job that I can do

from home and that does not require too much talking. I think most

people take off two weeks and though going back to work is hard, they

seem to manage fine. At least, thus far Carol has survived, right

Carol?!

Talk to you all soon!

Sara,

Glad to hear you are safe and sound in LA! I had a series of " last

meals " too ... you go for it!

Yeah, I'm surviving. Some days are better than others. :)

Today I start the second half of my wire/splint experience. I'm now

at the 4 week mark - 4 weeks to go!

Do you know how long you will be in the hospital? I think I

remembered you saying just one day. So, will you leave Tuesday, then?

Enjoy your time with your Brother. Travel safely. :)
