Guest guest
Holly, I'm assuming that the onion and garlic powders, oregano, etc. you mention are " illegal " commercial ones? -- I dislike the term " illegal " but don't know of a better one. Seems to me that it calls forth a tendency for some of us to be unsympathetic, unconsciously ignorant fascists -- Anyway, I noticed long ago that commercial herbs often bothered me. Figured they were full of mold. You sound like a kindred spirit! Guest guest
Hi Carol, My onion and garlic powders are homemade, but the other spices are commercial brands (we just got a bunch of Penzey's). But even having a fresh onion touch something I eat makes me burp onions :-(. Guest guest
Just like you, I will burp peppers (the sweet yellow, orange, red, green ones) if I eat them or if I eat something that got in prolonged contact with it. Funny eh ? Guest guest
if they repeat on us - doesn't that mean our body doesn't tolerate them? eileen > > > > > > Holly, > > > I'm assuming that the onion and garlic powders, oregano, etc. you > > > mention are " illegal " commercial ones? -- I dislike the term " illegal " > > > but don't know of a better one. Guest guest
Longo ago, pre-gut troubles, I had a year that I didn't burp onions but if I ate them, I would perspire onions. Needless to say, I didn't eat them that year!
Guest guest
I'm not a fan of peppers, onions, and garlic anyway, so I don't put them in food that I eat/make all by myself. But my mom likes to season the meat with stuff like that (the meat at supper is the only food item the entire family eats). I'm just grateful to have one item that I don't have to cook myself, so a little onion et al burping is worth it ;-). Guest guest
My observation is that it's not that simple. Both my sister and I notice that when we have a mold exposure, like when working in the flower garden when the mold count is high, we burp a LOT - and for no apparent reason. I believe she's one of " us " but she refuses to limit her diet. We both had a lot of vaginal yeast problems when we were young and that's when she was diagnosed with mitral valve prolapse which has been connected w/ Candida problems. Blessings, Artful Carol Former me: From babyhood - CFS, Depression, Candida, Severe Chemical, Inhalent, and Food Allergies. Current me: Global Carb and Fungal Problems well-controlled past 30 yr. by extremely low-carb allergy/anti-yeast diet, SCD 01/05. Took allergy shots for 35 yr. No need for them since SCD! Magnesium/Vits A, B, D, E/Evening Primrose, Fish, Olive, and Other Oils, Lecithin. 2 grown kids recovered from serious developmental problems which I believe were fungally-caused. << You're right, Mara, with gas it can go eitehr way. If its fermentation, the gas produced would be exponential, whereas a die-off reaction would produce a more finite amount of gas. So, in my experience, if its repeated burping that doesn't provide relief, its a result of fermentation; but cathartic gas or burping that happens once or twice and isn't uncomfortable or feels like a relief afterward would be caused by bacterial death. Does that make sense?>>
Guest guest
I don't think the garlic/onion/etc. causes gas (or at least not much), because I don't feel bloated or anything. I think the reason I burp is because I swallow air when I drink/eat (I burp even when I just drink water). However, if these items are fermenting in my gut, it's really weird that such a small amount (like when I ate a cucumber slice that had been touching an onion) can cause it.
