Guest guest
Gotta ask - what kind of cheese? My son dumps on Velveeta. Will not touch it at all. Doesn't happen with other cheeses, just Velveeta types. Could be the combo of sugars & fats? Just a thought. We should be the healthiest family around...he dumps on fats and I dump on carbs & sugar. Makes for difficult meal planning, LOL! Dh and other son just get what they get! And just as a side note, we have discovered that he doesn't dump on foods fried in peanut oil & olive oil...go figure! You would think that veg oil wouldn't make him dump, but it does. Reba > Tomato soup + bread, I'm guessing. I just have to be careful and not pour a > large bowl of soup. Guest guest
I saw when said this too and wondered what is it about that > combination that you (either of you) think made you dump? ======================================= I don't know about anyone else, but when I make grilled cheese, it is with a good amount of butter on it. I would think that a possible contributing factor would be the grease along with the tomatoes. Could be the carbs from the bread, could be anything. I'm able to take about 2-3 bites of a grilled cheese sandwich and know that is my limit now. Haven't had tomato soup in years. After all the talk about the soup and dumping, I think I'll make it a few more years before going there and when I do, it will be without the grilled cheese. Thanks for the warning guys. Guest guest
You know, I used to love grilled cheese, but they just aren't quite the same with low carb bread. My new favorite alternative is to take a low carb tortilla, lay a slice of cheese on it (I like muenster, but anything will work), and nuke them for about 30-35 seconds. Roll up and voila! A cheesy roll-up sandwich delight ) I'm having one for lunch with some southwestern chicken soup (it's FREEZING cold here in Pittsburgh, and my pouch is having an iffy day - so soup was in order). Guest guest
This whole " dumping " thing confuses me. Don't laugh or roll your eyes (everyone) but actually I am not sure if I have dumped, or if there are different " types " of dumping? Here's why I say this: Mt. Sinai warned that dumping could be caused by sugar and/or fat consumption, and that anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour after eating something problematic one might experience extreme nausea, palpitations, weakness, sweatiness, even vomiting (I think). Everyone seems to say it is a miserable experience, so I wouldn't think I would mistake it if and when it happened. So these extremely unpleasant reactions have never happened to me, as I am pretty careful not to eat above 20 grams of sugar at one sitting (which seems a safe limit for me), and I don't over do fats either. BUT I have had a few times where soon after eating I have felt very sleepy. Usually it was after a breakfast of cereal with skim milk and strawberries (sugar?) or a my old lunch of Detour bar and a big bowl of blueberries. Is that dumping, sort of? Every so often I think maybe I'll eat something decadent and see what happens, but I hate the idea of making myself " sick " so I haven't pushed the sugar envelope, yet. Truthfully, I am more reluctant to find out that maybe I WON'T dump. Just the threat of dumping is & has been a big big deterrant to me. So that's why I was curious about what it could have been in the combination of tomato soup & grilled cheese sandwich that made a couple of people dump. I've never knowingly gone above 6 grams. I did have terrible vomiting, heart racing and sweating from grilled cheese and tomato soup. After the vomiting ended, I literally passed out in my bed sound asleep. Someone then pointed out the tomato soup has 12 grams of sugar per serving. I don't know why it never occurred to me to look at the grams of sugar on the soup. In almost 20 months, that was the first time I didn't check the sugar grams on something - and after the experience, probably the last time I won't check! Guest guest
Reba, Velveeta isn't cheese!!!! Get serious! Isn't it some kind of mysterious blend of fats and milk solids? LOL Won't get near the stuff if I can't identify it! Vicki A. > > Tomato soup + bread, I'm guessing. I just have to be careful and > not pour a > > large bowl of soup. Guest guest
Lucille, I have never dumped either. Not to offend the others, but sometimes it drives me crazy when people ask " Can we eat this " or say we're not supposed to eat that, or go way into their labs, supplement, vitamins, etc.. I never got to do all of that " fun " stuff! I can eat anything. But I must admit, my preferences have changed a lot. I don't know if it's because my eating habits have been changed for so long or what. My surgeon says the wls kind of rewires the brain. So while I CAN eat everything, I no longer CRAVE everything. Chocolate, Doritos, ice cream, donuts, blah, blah..none of that appeals to me anymore. And I really dislike melted yellow cheese, but I have, even pre-wls since living in Asia for 13 years (which is why I suspectlong term change in habits may contribute greatly) I can still go for a blackberry pie though! And I do like hard candy. I think, from what the others are saying, if you have ever dumped, you would know it. And if you wonder, then you haven't. Kind of like the big O!!!LOL Vicki A. > This whole " dumping " thing confuses me.
