Guest guest
Patty Sue, I think everybody on this site has had an inpatient surgery. My surgery is tuesday and ive been told that i will probably be in the hospital until thursday morning. Which jaw are they moving? I wish i was only gonna be banded for a week. I'll be wired for about four. My surgeon suggested boost drinks. Slim fast is more of a diet drink and i was told lots and lots of calories. You should read around on this site alot. It has helped me so much. If i hadnt found this site i would be so much more of a basket case right now than i already am. Dont be afraid to ask any questions that you have. Good Luck > Hello, I'm new to this group. I am having surgery on July 12 to bring > my jaw forward (don't remember the medical term). Any advice? It is an > outpatient procedure. Guest guest
Hi Patty. I'm having the same surgery next Friday. It will be outpatient and I'll be splinted and banded for six weeks. I have collected a long list of soft foods to eat, which I'll paste below. I highly recommend going under Links and reading some of the FAQs listed there. Good luck! Luna SOFT FOODS Soup/broth - esp. bean soup Tofu - silken Soy milk Soy creamer Polenta/grits Vienna sausages Hot dogs (blended) Baked potato Tiny pasta noodles Pasta w/pesto Refried beans Black beans (blended) Mashed potatoes Gravy Butter Peanut butter (blend w/soymilk and honey) Canned mushrooms (blended) Odwalla smoothees Soy protein powder Soy protein drink mixes Whey protein isolate Mac and real cheese Spaghetti squash Veggies (blended) Fruit Avocado Grains (quinoa?) Soy yogurt Lactaid milk Kefir Pineapple juice (enzymes help flush toxins) Apple juice Ensure or Boost (group prefers Ensure) Are You Lactose Intolerant? Try: Soy milk, non-dairy creamer or juices in place of milk. Sherbert & Sorbets can be used in place of ice-cream. Lactaid Pills can be purchased over the counter, crushed and use with meals. Many supplements like Ensure, Boost, Osmolite, are dairy free and can be used in place of yogurt. Recipe ideas from Tania Castro This is really good, tastes like apple pie with ice cream = cinnamon apple sauce (Motts is my favorite) & fat free vanilla frozen yogurt (Green's fat free frozen yogurt is so good - tastes like regular ice cream!) - put the apple sauce on top of the yogurt/ice cream in a bowl and enjoy, so good! = orange juice breakfast smoothie = three or four scoops of the Green's vanilla fat free frozen yogurt, orange juice, 1 banana, ice - blend and enjoy! = oreo smoothie - vanilla yogurt, ice, milk, Oreos, Uh - Oreo heaven! = bean burrito - without the burrito, take some refried beans, mix it with water to make it less thick, melt cheddar cheese on it, and then add sour cream and salsa - Mexican night! = Fully Dressed Spud = make instant potatoes, melt on it cheddar cheese, and dress it with whatever you want - chives, bacon bits, sour cream, chilli - sky's the limit, and its really good. = Turkey Stuffing - make the classic stove top stuffing and drizzle on it your authentic gravy or the kind from the store, both good, and there you go - its Thanksgiving! Might have to water down the stuffing depending on how thick you can handle it. Surprisingly, still really good even when watered down. If you want to eat something sinful and so good - try this = vanilla yogurt (3 scoops), cream cheese frosting (1 tablespoon), peanut butter (1 tablespoon), mix all three and enjoy. This is seriously like crack, so good you'll keep wanting more! :-) Cream of meat broth (from sararegine) This is an Italian recipe that my mom uses for me and that really helped get rid of my meat cravings. Take a couple of pieces of chicken, veal or any meat of your choice Put into a pot and boil with some water and a cube of bouillon cubes (meat stock of your choice e.g. if you put chicken to boil put in chicken stock) Once meat has boiled with broth throw into blender with some milk (or soy milk) and blenderize Mix in an egg and parmesan cheese Cook until creamy. Add pepper or salt as desired.
