Guest guest
Hi, Personally, I would band with 7mm if I was in your position. It is better to be safe now, then regret it in the future. Your daughter may look good now in comparison to the banded one. However, as the banded daughter improves, you may change your mind and 7mm may bother you. You don't want to miss the prime banding window. My son started with 7-8mm measured with the Starband scanner, but 15mm measured by hand. His case was a little different in that his plagio was visually worse than the 7-8mm indicated. I'm not sure about the ears. My son's right ear is still a bit anterior and I'm not sure whether it improved. It definitely has not gotten worse. His ear was always very mild, but I would be happy with improvement. I think CT generally says you can expect some ear improvement, and Hanger and Starband generally say don't expect it, but I see parents of Hanger and Starband kids getting ear correction. As for 7mm, is it faily mild and I don't think too many people would band at that number - but it depends how your baby looks, and how you are with it. I know a few moms who banded at 8 and were glad they did, and others who graduated with 7 or 8 mm of asymmetry who were happy with that number. Usually 0-3mm is normal, 3-6 very mild and 7-9 mild. Our specialist used the guideline of 10 mm for banding. My daughter had brachy (flat in back) with very little asymmetry. Hopefully you'll get some other moms to comment about ears. -christine sydney, 3.5 yrs, starband grad > > I have two 9 month old daughters and I have two questions. > > One of my daughters has moderate plagiocephaly (she had 15mm asymmetry and now down to 11mm). Guest guest
We've had significant improvement with ear asymmetry. My son started at 17mm CV asymmetry, skull base asymmetry of 8 and mid-face asymmetry of 10. He graduated from the first DOC Band after 7 weeks, at 9mm cranial vault asymmetry, 4mm skull base, 3mm mid-face. After 5 weeks in DOC Band #2, he was still at 9mm CV but down to 1mm in both skull base and mid-face asymmetry. Interesting that he'd had more improvement in the skull base and none yet in cranial vault, since skull base improvement is said to be less likely. He's grown quite a bit in the past two weeks and the flatness that is most prominent to us (cranial vault) is really starting to look better, so I think next time he's measured, we'll see that 9mm come down significantly. Hoping that's the case anyway! Hope that helps. Jill Cade's mom, 10 months, DOC Band #2, 09/29/09-present Austin, Texas
Guest guest
Just something interesting to add. My daughter's chiro said that when she adjusts my daughter's head on the top of her spine, this is most likely to directly affect rounding at the skull base. I hadn't thought about this until just now, but I've recently noticed some changes in my daughter's ears. I wonder if it is connected. It might be worth a shot at consulting with a chiro that does spinal adjustments. The spinal adjustments include adjusting the atlas (head) to ensure that it is aligned correctly on the spine. I should mention that my daugher primarily had brachy and her ears just kind of stuck out rather than were asymmetric. But, if change in the ears is dependent upon change at the skull base, then this might be something to consider. , mom to , 26.5 months STARband grad May 2009 Chiro and CST land Re: Will ears get more symmetrical?
