Guest guest
Hi, everybody My son's urinalysis report came back with mild ketones (5 mg/dl). I think this is because he ate a lot of meat to fill up his growing hunger body. I am thinking to give him some enzyme. Can anyone give me some suggestion about it? What kind of the legal enzyme he should take? Any suggestions is appreciated. Frances son 14yr UC Asacol 6 tab/day
Guest guest
Eating a lot of meat will not cause ketones in the urine if he is also getting enough carbohydrates. Diabetes, starvation, and a low carb diet are some causes of ketones in the urine. I hope that his doctor has checked him for diabetes if he is eating plenty of food, and carbs, and still has ketones in his urine. Guest guest
Thank you very much PJ for your responding. I will ask my doctor to check for diabetes. There is one thing I really don't know how to handle, the SCD legal food doesn't really contain much of carb ( besides banana), and he is a very active athlete. How can I fill up his carb? If he is not able to intake enough carb to satisfied his body needs (for sports), even he doesn't have diabetes, the ketones will be always an issue for him, right? > > > > Hi, everybody > > > > My son's urinalysis report came back with mild ketones (5 mg/dl). Guest guest
There are still plenty of carb foods on SCD. Some people limit them because of yeast and weight gain, but I would think an athletic teen would need enough of them. There are carbs in SCD yogurt, fruit, starchy vegetables like squash, carrots, and the nut butter/nut flour products. A fruit smoothy with SCD yogurt and some added nut butter would be a good higher carb snack. He would have to be on a very carb restricted diet to be having ketones in his urine.
