Hi Karianne!

Of course you are welcome to get all of your struggles and frustrations out-

there is never a need to apologize! First off, I don't think there is anyone on

this diet that has done it with a smile 100% of the time. It is hard. And time

consuming. And sometimes I want to shove my face in a big pile of spaghetti or

ice cream!!!

When I get really frustrated like you I have to think of my alternative. I'm not

sure what it would be for you- for me it is getting the rest of my colon removed

and having an ostomy bag. I just try to tell myself: the time put into cooking

is better than the time it might take to change an ostomy bag any day!

I also try to look at the big picture- even if I have to eat pureed food for

another 10 years, I still have so much life to live, that it will be worth the

sacrifice now.

You said it yourself: it IS helping you ASD. Even though you still have some bad

days, just think of all of the good days that you didn't have before!

Keep your chin up!!!! Don't give up!!!!

Every time I have a good periode and start to think about introducing new food like curry paste or something asian I get in a flare. EVERY time. And I hate it. I have been much more autistic the last 2 weeks. Specially after the stool test. I am so confused. I don’t know what to do. I don’t want intro. I don’t want carrots. I don’t want chicken. I want all the other things like tomatoes, strawberry, bread and bacon. F...Well if you were all right with the strawberry (or the tomato) - maybe you can have some more? Incrementally. Maybe cook them first, though? Why can't you have bacon? The next 2 weeks I am going on holiday to denmark and germany. So it will not be easy with food. Sometimes I wish I didn’t start SCD. I did tolerate much more food before and I did do fine before.. I was just on strong antifungal medication.. But I have made big progress both in my stomach and the autism after SCD. But I did wish I didn’t start :(Here's the thing. It seemed like you were tolerating them better, but really you weren't - only the problemswere manifesting not in your gut but with autism. So you were still reacting, but you were just reacting in adifferent way. So you could ignore it more easily because the connection was more tenuous and harder tosee. It's similar to the way that I don't have a problem gut-wise digesting milk, but the problems show upelsewhere - causing constant inflammation elsewhere in my system and making me always have arunny nose. So it took more work to diagnose the problem, because the symptoms didn't show up primarily as a digestive issue. Which probiotics are you taking at the moment? Also, can you smuggle the s. boulardii in through denmark or germany? And when do you get your stool test results back? It's too bad that preparing for the test had to give you a setback - makes it so people with ourconditions don't really want to do them too often.Mara

Hope you feel better soon.  We all hit this wall and find a way to keep going.  It's like my thing is going through the drive-thru for Mexican fast food.  Makes me soo frustrated since there is nothing I can eat.  You'll find more food you like that you tolerate.

Karianne,I know how you feel. Sometimes I catch myself thinking " I used to be able to travel easier before I got SCD " or " I used to be able to eat at such and such a place before I got SCD " . It takes me a second before I realize what I've thought. I didn't get SCD, I got Crohn's. I remind myself that although SCD is a big change in lifestyle, my disease is what has really caused me to need SCD. And I need it! I've seen so much improvement since starting SCD that I know I couldn't live without it. Although SCD is easy to blame, and it's the most obvious thing people see when I go to social outings that involve food, I just try and remember that SCD is what allows me to go out at all. It's what makes it so that people can't see how my disease affects me. SCD makes it so I can do more " normal " activities with my friends, my disease is what isolates me and makes me a person incapable of a " normal " lifestyle. SCD has given me freedom from my disease.

Thanks for all the answers.

To Mara:

Last time I tried a strawberry I had diarhea for 3 days. So I don't know what

effect the strawberry I ate yesterday will have.. I don't know if that tomato is

one of the reason I have problems know.

I don't know how to judge it know. Because my bm are craxy..

I don't have any legal bacon avilable here I am now (on a small places on

holiday). I do have some legal bacon at home (contain meat, salt and e250). But

it is so much fat and my stomach is sensitive to it..

Several times I have tried probiotic. And I am really afraid of probiotics

because I react so bad to them. The normal die off with joint pain, fatigue,

headache ++ is okey. But I also get problems to breath. Even with a small dose.

I have tried coconut yogurt and it is better with that. But because I am very

unsure about the fat content I did not eat so much of it. Last time I made it,

it failed. And I did not want to make a new batch because of the CDSA test.

Hopefully I will get the results from the test within 2-3 weeks. Unfortunate it

was a very good looking sample they got :(

I have been thinking about s boulardi but I will need to buy it from england

because there are no legal in norway. They all contain starches and lactose.

On of the hardest thing is that I don't know whats wrong.

All my lab test taken at the hospital a normal. The coloscopy and gastroscopy is

normal. They don't see any inflammation. The hospital doctor say he don't

understand. I don't know if he believes me either..

Hi Karianne,

I know your gut issues are complicated, but maybe you can focus on the ASD

symptoms. Are they improving with SCD? Are you sleeping better and feeling less

anxious or in a better mood?

Those with gut issues keep a food/GI journal, but a mood/feeling journal would

help you too.

It is harder to track this because so many things affect mood and ASD symptoms,

but perhaps you will notice and improvement here before a change in GI symptoms.

Look for a trend over time instead of good days or bad days. We all have good

days and bad days.

Just a thought,

Hey Karianne :)Health problems can be so frustrating.. it's very important to blow off steam and take care of your feelings and emotions surrounding the stress. hang in there! :) take it easy..

I'm not familiar with your history, I see you are having trouble with raw tomatoes, have you tried baking your strawberries? I bake mine for over 20 minutes and I'm fine with them. are you avoiding juices? have you tried watering them down 70-80%? have you tried juicing a raw tomato? I don't have a juicer, so I find if I occasionally chew some tomato and am very careful to spit out the solids, it benefits me, but I have to be careful.

I'm sorry to hear probiotics cause such a strong reaction for you, but I think that's an important sign. If the bacteria overgrowth and imbalance is that strong, then that's probably what's wrong...

orange juice is very acidic, that can be a problem for some people. I bet in Norway it might be hard to find some of the brands of juices that we have established as SCD legal :( do they at least have like dole pineapple juice?

Best wishes!! and keep reaching out :)

Oh, also, have you tried any parasite cleanses? That might be very helpful. There are some great ones listed in Healing With Whole Foods by Pitchford. I found the oil of oregano extremely helpful.Best!

Its time for a update.

Thanks for all the answer.

I talked with my dan doc today and he told me that it may be a yeast flare up.

He recommend me maybe diflucan, saccharomyce bourlardi or something similar. And

eat lots of yogurt and probiotic.

I don’t eat any yogurt and I don’t take any probiotic for the moment. I know

it is importent but when I have tried before I have got so bad die off that I am

very afraid of probiotic. The DAN doc wants me to take a multi probiotic with

different types of bacterias. Not only the SCD legal one.

So I am of course very unsure what to do. Listen to dan doc and take multi

probiotic or take kirkmans SCD legal.

Anyway.. I will not start any probiotic now. Because I am on holiday in a small

place and it is impossible to make yogurt here. And I don’t know if I am able

to find any type of probiotic in the store, SCD legal or not.

But I will ask the pharmacy if they can get saccharomyces bourlardi.

I got sad today when he told me that is properly yeast. Because I think I knew

it was yeast but I just didn’t want to think that. I have used lime juice on

meat, drinking orange juice and used honey in food. Sometimes my stomach has

gotten a bit bloated but I admit.. I have just ignored it.. Because it was not

any extreme pain. And then I lost self control with the raw tomato and the raw

strawberry.

Maybe I do tolerate strawberrys. I have not notice any change (not in my stomach

or in my head) after that 1 strawberry. My stomach still think it is a rabbit

(and makes rabbit poops..) and I am still as tired as I was before. Before I

restarted SCD I used lots of anti fungal and did not tolerate any fruit. But I

could eat 2 lbs strawberry with no reaction... The same with all other types of

berries and tomatoes (raw).

So I want to try again.. Just at a time when my stomach don’t make rabbits

poops!

I will go back to the basic food. That means no orange juice or lime juice and

honey. Just untill I start to feel better again and not sleep so much.

And maybe not eat so many green peas.. Because I really love them, and that is

normally a sign that I don’t tolerate them..

so that is the juice I have tried.

I have never seen pineapple juice from dole)

I'm pretty sure you can have lemon and lime juice on a yeast diet, Karianne.
