Our guts are darned all strange -- and everyone is different. I didn't tolerate anything except orange juice for many months, even though some folks have trouble with citrus initially. So much for cookie-cutter medicine! We all have similarities, but there's that bit of uniqueness that drives everyone crazy. I remember, in my early days, asking Elaine why she didn't put menus in BTVC. Her answer was that then BTVC would be 40 years of individually tailored menus for all her clients, because everyone was different -- and even if she did that, someone else was sure to come along for whom none of the menus worked. I didn't, altogether, understand it at the time. With the clarity of nine years' experience, I sure do, now! I don't always get to answer all the messages I want to, but I do try! Next week's going to be a zoo... Friday is our anniversary, and Harry's taking a week off for us to try to get rid of some of 34 years' worth of STUFF that we've accumulated so that we have room to move. Guest guest
It took me a long time to eat raw fruit. I started Dec 05 with many ups, downs, restarts, etc. Cook, peel and deseed everything fruit or veggie. It's a good time of year though to try different produce. Berries (black, raspberry, strawberry, etc.) may not bother you. Cooked apples put through a food mill to get apple juice and/or sauce (I just do four at a time and it makes a lot) may not bother you. Pink ladies are great if you can find them. Eventually you will be able to drink grape juice and not be bothered. I'm on a smoothie kick now trying different variations. Baby yourself as long as you can so your body can heal. Guest guest
How is that for late night reading or getting too hot to hold? I haven't had the desire to read an entire book since I got sick in 2002 but I used to pull almost all-nighters if the book was really good ;-). I can't imagine cuddling up with an electronic device but...I don't know. Debbie 41 cd And if BTVC isn't on there, I bet a lot of old cookbooks and classics aren't either. Debbie, I don't (yet) have a Kindle, but I got to play with a Kindle DX over the weekend. They've just dropped the price on the regular Kindle from $259 to $179, and word in the gadget news is that because other devices have come out, the price of the Kindle could be down to $99 by the end of the year. It was very easy to read, since you can change the font size to one you like. The Kindle, so far, is, IMO, superior to the B & N Nook or the Sony Reader. It's quite light weight, and not warm to the touch at all. You can read for up to ten days on a single charge. <g> As for old cook books and classics -- hit Project Gutenberg or Google Books and start looking. Google Books is doing a great deal of their material in EPUB format, which is easily translated to AZW (Kindle) format by the Calibre program, which is shareware. There's that PDF version floating around online. Makes searching really easy. As for not getting BTVC on it, whoever has copyright should get in touch with the publishers to make it into an ebook - that's the future right there. Guest guest
My mom got a Sony Pocket Reader, and seems to be enjoying it. I put a crapload of books on there, and she's already read several of them. She was an avid reader in the past, but just doesn't make it to the library much anymore. The e-reader is super convenient, so now she reads on it everyday. I may have to steal it from her so I can finally finish the Harry Potter series ;-). Guest guest
*pencils Marilyn, PJ, & into datebook* Marilyn, I know you're going to doubt my sanity, but I would have a grand time inventorying, categorizing, and alphabetizing your 12,000 books :-). Maybe I should have been a librarian? Did I mention that I also have several dog-sitting references? Violet the dachshund would vouch that I do a great job of laying on the couch watching tv, with dogs piled on/around me ;-). But at least you're making progress! They say to tackle one drawer a day, or to set aside 20 or 30 minutes a day to declutter. Before you know it, things are looking great! Then you'll have room to buy more book and more kitchen gadgets... Holly Crohn's SCD 12/01/08 > >*starts packing bags* > > > >PJ & Marilyn, I'm on my way ;-). Guest guest
I'm also a great organizer ;-). A place for everything, and everything in it's place. All of my books, games, CDs, etc. are arranged alphabetically too! The only problem is, pets don't believe in organization. I get my bird's house/gym all cleaned up and her toys all put away, and she comes in and trashes the place in 10 minutes (papers shredded, toys tossed, food flung). I get all of the dogs toys put away in his basket, and 10 minutes later, the basket is empty and toys are in every room of the house (even the bathroom). They're worse then kids! Guest guest
Zoila sounds like a real gem, indeed! My mother and I used to have one of these: Opal. She was a true professional in her approach to cleaning and would do anything at all you wanted her to. Alas, she was my mother's age and, like Mama, long gone. There will never be another Opal just as I suspect you are having trouble finding another Zoila. But we can dream! A weekly decluttering made a difference... I love to cook and write, but I hate to clean! Just no patience for it. Zoila hated to cook, but loved to clean. It was a good partnership. — Marilyn
