Guest guest
, I'm sure you are a gorgeous Fiona from Shrek. I think she's very cute:-) The green will go eventually, don't worry, as will the swelling. As far as septoplasty goes - I have a deviated septum. Oddly enough the deviated septum was corrected when I had rhinoplasty 10 years ago but my surgeon says that sometimes it can grow back. Go figure. Just my luck. Any way, I went to see an ENT doctor who recommended I get a septoplasty to fix it again. I didn't really want to undergo a 2nd surgery in addition to the jaw surgery so after discussing it with my surgeon I decided not to do it. I feel I can breathe fine from my nose, if pushed i.e. when I keep my lips closed (which is hard cuz of my open bite) I am able to breathe but I breathe through my mouth more naturally. I did ask the ENT doctor how long I would have to wait if I wanted to do the septoplasty after the surgery and he recommended I wait at least a month if not more. The problem is that having a septoplasty while very quick, can affect your jaw if it's still healing. AT least this is what they told me. I'm sure your surgeon will be able to provide a more accurate answer. I do know that the septoplasty is very quick. My father had it done when I was younger and he was in and out of the hospital in no time. He just had to walk around with a nose splint for a while. Good luck and keep up the good recovery. Guest guest
Thanks Sara:-). I don't mind the Fiona look, I think she's kinda cute too:-). I will keep you all posted on what the surgeon says, but I'm about 90% sure it's going to have to be done. I tried with all my might to breathe through that nostril and it's definitely blocked. I don't mind having another procedure done if it's going to affect my breathing, after jaw surgery, a septoplasty cant be *that* bad...I hope... > > Hey, it's day 5 now, and I'm feeling pretty good, eating better, > and > > in pretty good spirits. Guest guest
Hi Michele, I am still pre op (in fact pre orthodontia too - waiting for insurance pre approval in order to proceed - they are sure taking a long time for this), but I already have been told that I will need a septoplasty after my upper and lower jaw procedure. My septum is way off - like a " Z " , even though looking at me from straight on, it is not really apparent as my nose is straight. The lower part of my septum is almost all the way to my left, while the upper part is almost all the way to my right. I can breathe a little out of my right nostril because of how far left the lower part is, but when that is corrected with my maxilla surgery, it will completely close off what little I can use right now. I have been told by both the ortho and my plastic surgeon that I will need to do the rhinoplasty after the jaw surgery. They will not know exactly where the nose will end up, and that will make a difference on what to do with the upper part, if you see what I mean. It will be an insurance covered rhinoplasty, but since it is medically necessary, you are allowed a cosmetic result by law. So I am actually looking forward to the rhinoplasty. I don't hate my nose, but if I need to have a medically necessary nose surgery, I do have some ideas of how I would like it to look post op! hummmmmmmmmmmmm! Anyway, it isn't routine for the nose to be repaired along with but as a second surgery following jaw surgery, but it does happen. I am wishing you luck with this. You might actually look at this as a bonus! Most people look for reasons to have an insurance covered rhinoplasty! We got it handed to us! I was told btw, that I should look at 6 months post jaw surgery to do the rhinoplasty/septoplasty. Guest guest
, I just had a septoplasty three weeks ago along with a turbinectomy and endoscopic sinus surgery. It was outpatient, I was probably in surgery for about an hour, in recovery till I was awake enough to be sent home. The only problem is not being able to breathe through your nose for a couple weeks, but if you are used to breathing through your mouth it is not hard to adjust. Also, the anesthesia saps your energy for a while, which I'm sure you have been experiencing already. The only difference is I am still pre op for the jaw surgery so I don't know how long you would have to wait after to have it fixed. I am finally being able to breathe through my nose better and it is a definate improvement from before. I just hope it doesn't get re-deviated when I do have my jaw surgery. Anyways, if you made it through your jaw surgery, the septoplasty should be easier. Good luck with your healing process!!
