Guest guest
You can get an elemental infant formula with the proteins broken down, however, some infants have a metabolic disorder where they can't metabolize certain amino acids. Even with breastfeeding, this can be a problem. One can get formulas that limit the proteins, I think. I certainly hope someone can help this child. Guest guest
Hi Eileen - what is his condition? Is it PKU (phenylketonuria)? If so, he can (and should) continue to breastfeed, but may also need a specialised PKU formula. This is what I have found so far: http://www.pkunews.org/diet/tipsBaby.htm Please let me have further details and I will check with my supervisors for him. Guest guest
Hi - I'm a breastfeeding supporter (we're not allowed to use the word " counsellor " here) in the UK. But if you can get more information, I'll consult with Lactation Consultants I work with. Licia > > > > Hi Eileen - what is his condition? Is it PKU (phenylketonuria)? Guest guest
Wow! Good for you - you've done something tremendous for you and your children! It sometimes needs a lot of dedication, but its so profoundly rewarding. I'm also finding the work very rewarding, and the more research I do, the more astonishing facts I find about the benefits to both mother and child - and the research seems to have only scratched the surface - almost every day, more qualities of human milk, the way that the mother's body works and how it changes in response to her child's needs are discovered. If you can, please encourage the mother to forward her information sooner, rather than later. Guest guest
This is probably a really stupid suggestion but have you tried googling it? I only ask because I feel like I watched a medical mysteries type show on (maybe) discovery health where parents were trying to identify that exact condition.
