Guest guest
Hi Amy I went through the no tatebuds bit also and it drove me out of my mind, nothing tasted right. I tried everything even drinks didnt taste right. I was so upset with myself and depressed I cried often. I had ask for help on here and a few people said it would pass after about 2 weeks. And it did it felt like eternity but it did pass. I had my surgery the same day as you did. I seem to be doing well. Some things I can eat one day and not the next. I found that I have become very wasteful and that really bothered me at first but I just learn to except it now. I know it was a no no but today is my bday and a good friend made me a homemade carrot cake so I enjoyed 1tbls of cake and 1tbls of ice cream. It went down good. I shared the rest of the cake with my neighbors so it isnt in the house to temp me. I wish you the best of luck and hang in there girl. It only gets better. Guest guest
Hi! I had lap RNY in April 2003 and am doing well (down 120lbs, only 6 lbs from my goal!). I also had a tummy tuck just 3 weeks ago. Had issues with the " weird taste bud sensations " interesteringly enough after BOTH surgeries...after my gastric bypass surgery, I assumed it had to do with my stomach...but now I think it might be a product of going under anesthesia....(?) And I read recently that anesthesia can bring on depression-type symptoms within about two weeks after surgery. At least if it hits you and you know where it's coming from, (and that it will go away), that helps. Best of luck to you. -------------- Original message -------------- Hi Amy I went through the no tatebuds bit also and it drove me out of my mind, nothing tasted right. My surgeon said that the taste bud changes are a response to having major surgery. Your body produces alot of ketones (like acetone) and they affect your sense of taste and smell. I treated the experience as a great way to enforce my new eating habits. Nothing tasted good to me except the protein drink I buy and sugar free Popsicles. So I just wasn't tempted to eat anything I shouldn't. Mark
