Guest guest
i pushed the wrong button - and it posted on me! so i woke up from surgery pretty groggy but not doing too bad. i was splinted on the top - but could still move my lower jaw. i spent the night in the recovery room because they didn't have a bed anywhere else. they kind of left me alone - because compared to everyone else i was doing great. i asked them to leave the catheder in because no one was around really to help me to the bathroom and it was just easier that way. first night there was no real problems for me. although the woman next to me was in some serious pain - and a man a couple beds down from me had a post-op stroke. not good. funny story. so i wasn't really in pain - but i had the morphine button. because the woman next to me was in so much pain - the nurse kept saying - hit the button, make sure you're hitting the button. i didn't really need the button - but i really had nothing else to do. so every once in a while - i hit the button for the hell of it ) yesterday i woke up - and i realized my hip was real sore from the graft. when i got up to go the bathroom for the first time i didn't think i'd be able to stand or walk. the more i move, though, the less sore it seems to be. i finally got into a room yesterday. as for eating - they kept trying to get me to use a straw - which was a no-no because of the graft. they also brought be hot tea and hot cereal which i'm not supposed to eat because of the graft. i was able to drink from a cup with no real problem - just a little dribble. the biggest problem occurred last night around 4am. they had just restarted an antibiotic iv and given me tylenol. i woke up coughing (damn phlem goes right down the back on my throat). then i threw up. twice. they said it was probably because i hadn't eaten much and had so much medication. i was so worried about the graft that i panicked a little - but this morning the resident said not to worry that hopefully it will be ok. my nose is sooooo stuffy - and has been dribbling quite a bit. because of the graft (god - that sounds redundant) i can't blow my nose. so i have to wait for it to dribble out or go down my throat. i'll be happy when that's over. i would definitely recommend BRING SOFT TISSUES TO THE HOSPITAL. the cardboard things they had there were really cutting up my nose.... speaking of noses - because the surgery went so well - Dr. Cutting was able to touch up my nose. i call this version 6.0 (since i've had so many other nose jobs) - and am pretty happy so far. i was kind of worried that i'd have to have a nose job after this surgery - so it was a nice surprise to have it all at once. i've been sleeping a lot - but i wake up coughing which stinks. joey has been trying to wow me with all sorts of culinary treats - although i have to say that i did like the chocolate ensure. sara - i was thinking of you a lot yesterday...and wondering how the hell you posted so soon after surgery! you really are a crazy girl! i could barely bring myself to look at anything - let alone a computer screen. i'm glad to hear your fiance is around...and thinks you look cute ) that's enough from me. as i think of helpful things i'll write them down. for now - i'm going to brush my bottom teeth with my baby toothbrush and go to sleep. see you all tomorrow!! -becky ps - quick list of things i couldn't live without right now... joey and my mom tissues paper towels - i'm constantly dribbling when i drink baby spoon aquaphor - i think my lips might just peel off water ensure mirror tylenol extra pillows blender (althought i never use it...just joey) apple juice - the first thing i stomached after water lots of love
Guest guest
becky, That is quite a post! It sounds like you've been through a lot and are doing great - all things considered! Keep moistening your lips and letting Joey take care of you! The chocolate Ensure's aren't bad, right? Geez, you had a button? I had to find a nurse every time I wanted pain medicine ... and they weren't allowed to give it to me more often than every four hours ... so sometimes I had to wait! That's a great little list. Remember, you've got love coming in your direction from all of us! Take care, Carol > i pushed the wrong button - and it posted on me! > > so i woke up from surgery pretty groggy but not doing too bad. i was > splinted on the top - but could still move my lower jaw. i spent the > night in the recovery room because they didn't have a bed anywhere > else. they kind of left me alone - because compared to everyone else > i was doing great. i asked them to leave the catheder in because no > one was around really to help me to the bathroom and it was just > easier that way. first night there was no real problems for me. > although the woman next to me was in some serious pain - and a man a > couple beds down from me had a post-op stroke. not good. > > funny story. so i wasn't really in pain - but i had the morphine > button. because the woman next to me was in so much pain - the nurse > kept saying - hit the button, make sure you're hitting the button. i > didn't really need the button - but i really had nothing else to do. > so every once in a while - i hit the button for the hell of it ) > > yesterday i woke up - and i realized my hip was real sore from the > graft. when i got up to go the bathroom for the first time i didn't > think i'd be able to stand or walk. the more i move, though, the less > sore it seems to be. i finally got into a room yesterday. > > as for eating - they kept trying to get me to use a straw - which was > a no-no because of the graft. they also brought be hot tea and hot > cereal which i'm not supposed to eat because of the graft. i was able > to drink from a cup with no real problem - just a little dribble. > > the biggest problem occurred last night around 4am. they had just > restarted an antibiotic iv and given me tylenol. i woke up coughing > (damn phlem goes right down the back on my throat). then i threw up. > twice. they said it was probably because i hadn't eaten much and had > so much medication. i was so worried about the graft that i panicked > a little - but this morning the resident said not to worry that > hopefully it will be ok. > > my nose is sooooo stuffy - and has been dribbling quite a bit. > because of the graft (god - that sounds redundant) i can't blow my > nose. so i have to wait for it to dribble out or go down my throat. > i'll be happy when that's over. i would definitely recommend BRING > SOFT TISSUES TO THE HOSPITAL. the cardboard things they had there > were really cutting up my nose.... > > speaking of noses - because the surgery went so well - Dr. Cutting was > able to touch up my nose. i call this version 6.0 (since i've had so > many other nose jobs) - and am pretty happy so far. i was kind of > worried that i'd have to have a nose job after this surgery - so it > was a nice surprise to have it all at once. > > i've been sleeping a lot - but i wake up coughing which stinks. joey > has been trying to wow me with all sorts of culinary treats - although > i have to say that i did like the chocolate ensure. > > sara - i was thinking of you a lot yesterday...and wondering how the > hell you posted so soon after surgery! you really are a crazy girl! > i could barely bring myself to look at anything - let alone a computer > screen. i'm glad to hear your fiance is around...and thinks you look > cute ) > > that's enough from me. as i think of helpful things i'll write them > down. for now - i'm going to brush my bottom teeth with my baby > toothbrush and go to sleep. see you all tomorrow!! > > -becky > > ps - quick list of things i couldn't live without right now... > > joey and my mom > tissues > paper towels - i'm constantly dribbling when i drink > baby spoon > aquaphor - i think my lips might just peel off > water > ensure > mirror > tylenol > extra pillows > blender (althought i never use it...just joey) > apple juice - the first thing i stomached after water > lots of love
