Dora,

I have to tend to agree with you. My surgeon and his staff have done over

4,000 surgeries and they are also certified surgeons who teach other surgeons on

how to do the procedures both open and lap. I did not have any drains or

staples and had no complications. I had two certified gastric bypass surgeons

in

the operating room doing my surgery. They have a staff of 4 and do all

surgeries whether open or lap with 2 certified surgeons. They have also been

doing

these surgeries since the late 70's with a death rate of .005 (I think that's

it). I would have to recheck the website to be sure, but I know its very very

low. I felt very comfortable with them and would recommend them highly to

anyone living in this area. But this is all my personal opinion.

anne,

I did have 6 little kazoo type as I call them drains that were removed before

I left the hospital. I am referring to a tube that you go home with. I have

known several that have what they called a G-tube for about 3 weeks post-op.

This tube I did not have and when I originally was going to have the surgery

by another surgeon he was going to do this and I was very very uncomfortable

about this. He actually had 3 different tubes in and sent you home that way.

That was too scary for me to think about. The surgeon I ended up with thank

God doesn't do his surgeries this way.

Kathy,

It is so great to hear that Rich is doing so well. He is so lucky to have

you by his side. His surgeon and mine seem to have similar programs. I had

received three very imformative booklets prior to surgery along with attending

an

education seminiar, nutrionists seminar, pre-op testing that involved all day

with different classes. I also received the spirometer to use weeks prior to

surgery.

We have monthly support group meetings at the hospital and we have just

recently started one closer to where I live since a lot of us are more than an

hour

from the hospital in Cleveland. I believe the after care is just as

important and the pre-care.

Wishing Rich continued good health and you too Kathy. You both take care and

God bless!

i'm sure she was referring to gastric bypass patients. my surgeons of which

there are 4 have only lost one patient in the last 5 years. not bad odds i'd

say. you may give us great information, but i'm sorry to say your " bed side

manner " leaves a little to be desired.

Yes " " I have known several to have gotten excellent care by going

through Medicare. They've been able to receive the same care as I was.

i never said that was ok nor do agree with those that do, but that is their

business and up to their doctors to tell them. but there is a tactful way of

approaching a subject and talking to someone without degrading them. a good

portion of us have been degraded enough in our lives and it needs to stop.

sorry but of course that is my opinion. i hope i can cheer someone up when

their

down, not bring them down even more.

Kim,

Don't leave the group, it is better to just ignore than to leave. Your

always full of encouragement for others, including me. Please rethink your

decision. Don't let one ruin it for you.

Yeah, whatever, I'm sure if you ask your surgeon you had an on site

drain tuve unless you surgery was done open. If it was LAP you had a

drain whether it was removed before you could visibly inspect the

site yourself or not.

Is Chicago too far? 3 of the top 25 GPS facilities are located

there.
