Guest guest
For what it is worth, when I am under a lot of stress it is almost like my stoma shuts down. NOTHING gets through, everything hurts! I can eat very little (compared to my " normal " eating). I know that there are NO muscles in the stoma, but I wonder if the stomach constricts and just won't allow food in? It is down right painful, but when things finally start to relax...and life gets back to " normal " (what is NORMAL? In my life? HA!) stomach relaxes and I can eat again. Guest guest
First thought is nodding along with you. Light stress makes me wanna eat something. When we're getting down to serious-nowhere-to-turn stress, something twists my pouch into a knot. I " feel " emotions there, always did. That is one possibility, but then the other might have something to do with the lower stomach. <shrug> Might be worth pursuing for awhile. The other thing would be to see if it occurs IF you can possibly relax for an hour or so. I have trouble turning off problems, even for an hour. BUT when the stress subsides, I go back to the same habits I've developed over 9 yrs. This summer, I lost wt, as I stayed in that high stress condition for weeks on end, then further compounded by 3 different docs each adjusting his own meds. I was tempted to remind myself what every Hostess thing on the market tasted like when the weight was dropping, but somehow, I gripped my brain before that happened. LOL! Thanks, Vitalady, Inc. Guest guest
I don't know what it is, but at almost 3 years out I sometimes have a similar problem. Eating just doesn't sound good to me. I have to force myself to eat. Just one bite of cottage cheese, or a drink or two of liquid, and I'm done. But it isn't all of the time. I, also, can eat a good deal of food when I have an appetite. I, also, have not lost as much as I would like. I don't think it is a " problem " . My normis hasbeen has days when he doesn't want to eat. followed by days of chowing down. My 10 yr old son is the same. So I don't know if it's really a problem or not. It may be that your body is becoming (gasp!) normal. Guest guest
My thanks to everyone who responded to my post about eating problems. I had considered the idea that stress might be involved, although it must be a long term buildup kind of thing, since my worst days eating-wise are not necessarily associated with my worst days stress-wise, and even on days when I feel pretty good I still can't eat. Also, this hasn't happened before under stress; if anything, I just ate more. BTW, this is not a question of loss of appetite. I'm still hungry. I just can't eat. That is what makes it so miserable. It's much worse than post-surgery, when I couldn't eat but had little appetite, so it didn't bother me .... Jeri -- jlw@...
