Guest guest
Hi everyone, I just thought I'd share my experience with my first " adjustment " after surgery. Lucky me, being not splinted means I got to visit the ortho sooner than most. My ortho wanted to take the surgical hooks off of me and get me into more comfortable wires. (how sweet of him...) I also noticed a few loose brackets from surgery. Well, they took the wire ties off and then the wires, and I had 6 BRACKETS that had come loose...all on the top!!!! So that left me with 2 little brackets. The assistant asked if I wanted to brush my teeth, and I said an emphatic YES! So I went over to the mirror and there I was, virtually braceless! It felt soooo good to be able to brush my teeth all over and floss without having to worry about the brackets. (and I looked in the mirror and thought, " My teeth look so cute without the braces! " ..) Well, that didn't last but 5 minutes, because back in the chair I went to be re-bracketed:-(. The re-bracketing was not so fun, it was hard to open enough for him to get everything in line. Thank goodness for me, 1/2 of my lips are still numb, so one side wasn't too bad. Then they put a 19x25 wire in the bottom because I didn't get anything done to it, but a measly little 0.20 wire in the top. It hurt a little getting the o-rings back on the top, especially since I have the ceramics, but not much more than a typical adjustment. I asked my ortho what he thought about my lips closing, and he didn't seem too convinced that they will (or maybe thats how I took it). He said that there will be a huge improvement, but that since I'm not used to closing my lips, it's going to take some work on my part. I don't want to work, I just want them to close darn it!!!! No-one else has to " work " at keeping their lips closed....ugh! Wasn't that the whole point of the surgery??? I'm still going to be optimistic though, and keep moving my upper lip to regain feeling and motion. Anyways, I don't have to see him for 4 more weeks, then the real fun begins...woohoo. At least by that time I should be cleared to eat (7 weeks), so maybe I won't be so crabby:-).
Guest guest
Hi Michele, So many brackets becoming loose! Thankfully nothing fell off during surgery!! It must have been sooo nice brushing and flossing with no hinderances. At least another hurdle over!!! Guest guest
, Thanks very much for sharing your experience. I saw my Orthodontists last week, only because my Son had an appointment. They weren't sure if they wanted to see me after I was unwired or after the skeletal wires were taken out. Can anyone else comment on that? When did you or when should you see your Orthodontist post-surgery? Anyway, I'm glad you got to see your actual teeth - even if only for a few minutes. I realized recently that my Boyfriend has never seen me without mine. I can hardly wait until there is no more metal in my mouth! OH YEAH ... and no more bulky splint, either! Take care, Carol > Hi everyone, > > I just thought I'd share my experience with my first " adjustment " > after surgery.
