Guest guest
Celeste, I have not heard of this before. So many docs are different from each other. I myself wasn't asked to diet at all prior to surgery, and two weeks before surgery, I was diagnosed with diabetes for the first time. ( I figured my surgery was in two weeks so I ignored, as did my doctor. After surgery I had 2-3 insulin injections, then didn't need it after that. ) Each doctor is different as is each patient. I also was surprised to hear about the lady who got a vena cava filter placed PRIOR to blood clots, but HEY, I do not know everything. A little knowledge is dangerous. If your doctor wants you to eat this specific food, then there must be a good, sound reason. Maybe he is preparing you for the post-op foods. The first several weeks you can have liquids--->pureed. They will taste good compared to what you are eating now! I am 6 weeks post-op and eat yummy things. I can eat a scrambled egg, (FINALLY!!!!) chicken, tofu ( I happen to LIKE tofu ), and have discovered soynuts - my new favorite thing. I have found popsicles made with Splenda. My main problem is to remember to eat. I have to drink a shake to get in the many protein grams I need, so eating is a forced effort. I would much rather drink all day. I could down Propel all day. Celeste, You are almost there. Do not give up now. It is just food. Food has no power over us any longer. We have become its masters! It is here to serve our purposes. Hang on just a little bit longer. You will be SO glad you did!! Hugs, Janet > > I am not on a liquid fast, my medical group uses Bariatrix products so I can have oatmeal, protein bars, spaghetti, soups....but they are definately not very pleasant to eat. To be honest I almost sat there on Saturday and said, " forget this, if I am going to have to not enjoy food, the food I love, for the rest of my life what is the point " ? Guest guest
Hello Celeste, You are not alone! I know how you are feeling, as do all the people here who have had the surgery. I think it is natural to have some second thoughts, but don't let that change the feelings and decision you made to use this surgery as a tool to improved health, a more positive outlook on life, and more energy than you've had before! YOu can do this!!! I was only asked to fast for the 24 hours prior to surgery, so not exactly sure how the diet you're on now feels. But believe me, you will get through it! You will eventually be able to eat some of your current favorite foods, but have to keep telling yourself you want to live! and be healthy! and making good nutritional food choices can get you the body you've always dreamed of!!! Your body is your vehicle to becoming an active, vibrant person! You will want to nourish it with healthy foods after the surgery! Now, there will still be fleeting moments when you have doubts, but let those pass and realize that losing the weight is here now! ANd it can be done! I had gbp on 5/27/03, and was 315 miserable pounds. I had bad back problems, and couldn't walk from here to the curb without breaking a sweat and needing to rest. Today, I am 172 and so so so happy!!! I went from a size 30 to a size 10! You can do it too!!! feel free to e-mail me if you need support! I am happy to offer all I can! Take good care, I'll say a prayer for you and for a very successful, complication-FREE surgery! You'll be on your way to the new, slender, confidant YOU before you know it!
