Anyone else on Bextra and does it work as well? " Cindy, Despite some warnings from others to the contrary, Bextra was recommended by my doc who specializes in rheumatology and he also said for me to never ever consider Vioxx or even Celebrex. I held my breath about a year ago and went on Bextra and while it did not relieve what it was prescribed for and I tried another anti-inflamatory later on, taking the Bextra for an extende period did not cause me any difficuties. The second drug he tried did, however, and after seven days I nixed that sucker and decided to just deal with it as best I could. My problems stem from two primary areas. The foremost is in the right hip area and now he is saying perhaps in the lumbar. I also note here that I finally got a Dexascan a few months back and it revealed Osteopenia in the right hip as well. That despite the fact that although I am proximal of some 39 months duration, I have supplemented from the beginning like a distal. Would that I had heeded Vitagirl's urges for me to insist on a Dexa at the beginning so I would have an answer to whether or not the bone loss was ongoing when I had surgery, or has occured in spite of the supps I do with her super calc,,,etc. The second area of difficulty I have is chest pain which began after my open heart surgery last September. The sternum was whacked open and arthritis zeroed right on on that area almost immediately and I have had to have a three phase bone scan there because one preliminary xray said that they could not rule out osteomyletitis. Thankfully, that was not found. He did tell me about the arthritis attacking the bone there while the knitting was going on. That always leaves to wonder whether or not the discomfort in that area is myofascial or heart related. I know intellectually that I should have resolved the discomfort coming from the coronary artery blockages with the two bypasses BUT in the back on one's head, the issue is always there. Just my personal experience, but the Bextra was not a problem for me but it did not resolve my complaints either and for the most part I have just decided to try and live with it. I do have a script for Darvocet but it really does not hit my pain nail on the head either. Tommorrow I am going for an MRI of the hip and a soft tissue MRI in that area for a fibroid that he has found there as well. Not sure what all of that is going to reveal, but will just deal with it. Guest guest
Sue, according to my surgeon it does not cause ulcers. Otherwise, he certainly would not recommend it. Is there anyone out there who has used Bextra and had an ulcer caused by the Bextra? I think there is sufficient evidence that Vioxx has caused ulcers, but what about Bextra? I may ask that question separately to the group...
