Guest guest
Hello everyone. It has been such a busy weekend with everyone getting ready to go back to school here and I only have a 3 year old!!..haha. I just wanted to share some great news with you. I was able to ride my bike around the block twice in a row this weekend!! Now while a lot of people may not consider this a big accomplishment, I have not been on a real bike in over 5 years. We had to go get me a helmet since we live on base but we had such a blast. Now my 3 year old is bustling to keep up with mommy!!! Also, I am very bad with names but someone posted here about how we don't talk about the bad things from surgery. Well, I am almost 8 weeks out and I know I have posted my situations. I may not have posted them recently because I have now healed and am moving on. But from weeks 3 to 5, I told my hubby I was going to die and I would never get better. At one week out, I developed an infection and they had to reopen the bottom of my LONG incision and put in a drainage tube. It set me back quite a few weeks and smelled nasty. Then at 3 weeks, when they took my staples out, that weekend, the top of my incision " popped " open about 2 inches. So I only had about 3 inches of closed incision. I was very afraid they would meet and open me completely. I had to cover them both for weeks and they never seemed to be getting any better. I told my hubby that I made it through this great big surgery and I was going to die from these openings. All the while my great doc told me I was fine. Well, at week 5, the bottom one closed up and one week later, the top one scabbed up and now they are both closed and I look like any other person's scar. WAs I scared? You bet your butt. Was it a hard process? Like I have never had before. WOuld I do it again? In a heartbeat. WE all take risks everyday. I am doing things that I could never have thought I would do again. I was able to get on a swing at the park without it cutting into my thigh. We all need to know the facts but we also need encouragement. I got that here and at obesity help when I thought I wouldn't make it. And now I am sharing my story so that if this happens to you, you know you are not alone. Best wishes to all of you (I hate to say good LUCK because our surgeons are not lucky, they are skilled If you have any questions, feel free to ask me. I thought I was so prepared for this surgery after one year of research, but when it happens to you, mostly likely you will be like me.... and PANIC...ha ha. Have a great week everyone. And for people going into surgery this week, you are in my prayers!! Take care, Tina Open RNY 319/269/

Guest guest
I told a couple good friends at work and my immediate manager. For the same reasons as Pat below. I used to belong to a diabetes group and when I said I was thinking about the surgery you would not believe the vitriol that was sent my way. One person knew someone who had the surgery 20 years and and just died, of course it was the surgery's fault. Another is training to be a xray technician and started spouting off completely inaccurate information, but backed it up with the statement that she must know after all she was in medical training. Guess maybe xray technicians are getting more training than they used to :-) Other folks may not have be able to have the surgery and were like dogs in a manager, couldn't eat the hay but didn't want anyone else to have it either. I finally left the group as I was tired of being abused and very glad I did. I am 4 weeks out today, I feel great and luckily the only unpleasant effect I have experienced is I can no longer tolerate eggs. I am back to work and exercising daily. No matter what happens in 20 years I will not regret my decision. anne > > Thanks for sharing with us.
