Guest guest
I am going to have upper and lower jaw surgery and would like to schedule it for a time that is only 4 1/2 weeks before my brother's wedding. Is this do-able or just inadvisable?
Guest guest
I would not advise it. If you OS decides to wire you shut for 6 weeks (or longer) then you would still be wired for the wedding. I would say that you should try to stay about 8 weeks out. That will ensure that you are closer to being your normal self for the wedding. I'll be 3 weeks post op (lower only) and I would find it hard to get through a long night like that, and my recovery is going remarkably well. I'm not saying you wouldn't be ready in 4 weeks, but this event will only come once, and you want to be physically able to enjoy it. Besides, why ruch it if you don't have to. If you can give yourself more time than 4 weeks, I would say you should do that. If not, maybe you should wait until after the wedding. Guest guest
This is absolutely a question that only your Surgeon could answer. I had upper and lower surgery on the 5th of this month and will be wired shut until the 29th of June. As I understand it, 8 weeks is not " abnormal " when it comes to length of time to be wired shut. You may not be wired, but I would still say that 4 1/2 weeks post surgery won't be time enough for you to be physically and emotionally prepared to enjoy a wedding properly. But, I'm far from an expert. And I suppose all things are possible. Your surgeon will be able to tell you *realistically* if attending your brother's wedding 4 1/2 weeks post-op is a good idea - and why or why not. Good luck! Guest guest
It's probably impossible to schedule your surgery to coincide with any date you'd like. Teeth take their own time to get to where they need to be and they don't follow schedules particularly well. Also, surgeries get cancelled for lots of other reasons - illness, non- elective priorities, shortage of operating rooms or anaesthesiologists and even SARS (the last 3 happened in Toronto in the last 3 years). As for going to a wedding a month after surgery - you could do it, but you won't likely be eating normally, will require much more time to clean your mouth afterwards, and may not have enough energy to deal with a whole day of stress & celebrations. I know wouldn't have. And, you might also be swollen still (although by then, most of the major swelling will have gone down). All really depends on how much you're having done and how you recover. Is there a problem with doing it after your brother's wedding (assuming you might possibly be ready for surgery by that time)? > I am going to have upper and lower jaw surgery and would like to > schedule it for a time that is only 4 1/2 weeks before my brother's > wedding.
