I'm on day 3 of the diet (if I hadn't eaten a piece of rye toast day one I would be on day 4) and I have to say I'm doing ALOT better even though I'm tapering down the prednisone. Still having diarrhea but not as much gurggling sounds. I think it's important not to eat too much. After day 5 I'm going to go zuccini and then spinach (pureed). What veggies does anyone suggest next? I have noticed that some of books suggest ripe banana or pears pureed but I think it's better to stay away from that until the diarrhea is gone. Thoughts anyone? Hi,SCD for about a month. Started over this week as I tended to eat everything legal all at once. My question is this. How do I know if I am getting better on this diet if my meds have the illness pretty much under control. When I first started SCD I stopped my Meds (Asacol) and the D came back. Now that I am back on them it has lessened. How do I know I am healing and that it is ok to progress to stage 1 if the meds are masking my true reactions?Confused? Thanks,Phil

Phil,This is the problem with this illness. My experience in 12 years of having it is that every time you have a flare up you need a stronger drug or a stronger dose of the drug to get better. And after a while certain drugs just stop working. I have done asacol, colozal, enemas, suppositories, med pac (prednisone) and 6 mp and now prednisone. 6mp worked for 7 years and then suddenly didn't. I'm worried that when I get out of this flare up it won't work at all but I think the thing is you have to make sure you stick to the diet and avoid stress. I know Chinese medicine, acupunture and eating clean, simple, organic healthy food does work and patience (something I seem to have little of.) I think that if you can meditate and do stuff that feeds yourself you can better. Also many people believe the digestive system is the second brain and that when you have problems it usually means unresolved anger. Being English I tend to swallow my feelings and ignore that stuff but I might finally look into that. It probably doesn't answer the question but I don't think anyone knows why drugs work sometimes and not others or what the deal is with this disease. Remember they have cured certain cancers but not this!tte Hi,SCD for about a month. Started over this week as I tended to eat everything legal all at once. My question is this. Hi Phil,

Just proceed slowly and add new foods one at a time. Keep a food diary and see

how you do. I also kept a record of any symptoms. I found that even on

sulfasalazine I seemed to improve. If I ate something that did not agree with

me- it was noticeable, and there were some ups and downs at times. If all is

well for you- then great.
