Guest guest
Hi Holly, Congratulations on your wonderful weight loss. You've done a great job and can't wait til I can say I'm almost to goal. As far as ice chewing, I have a friend who is 3 years out from surgery and she chews ice constantly. I've known her to go through a bag of ice a day at times. I don't think there's anything wrong with it. I too love chewing on ice, have since I was a little kid. Guest guest
I almost do the same! I've even discovered a " favorite " ice that isn't rock hard, but I had heard one time that chewing ice meant a vitamin deficiency of some sort. I'm also worried about damaging my teeth. Thanks for your encouragement....without a doubt this surgery was the absolute best thing I have ever done in my life. Life opens up and changes dramatically after the surgery. Sometimes it is hard to deal with as people react very differently to me, but I've learned that my trusted and true friends are the ones that were there before the surgery...not just the ones that suddenly like me or find me attractive. It's sad, but there is a huge society bias towards heavier people. Anyway, I've learned so much about myself and about others this past year and I wouldn't trade those experiences and that knowledge for anything. Good luck to all of you. Guest guest
I love chewing ice and have done so since a little kid. I was also advised in another group that a desire to chew is also possibly be a lack Iron because of a woman having the desire to crunch on something. Guest guest
I asked my doctor about chewing ice meaning your low on Iron. And he said it isn't true. I have chewed ice for years. Pam
Guest guest
Hi Holly, The only thing I would be concerned about is sometimes the compulsion to chew ice is because your body needs iron. If your iron levels are okay, then I don't know what it is, but at least it doesn't have calories!! 2-10-04 404pre-op/367surg/266/160? hollyvz wrote: Hi Everyone...I have only posted on here once, but have been reading the posts for almost a year now. Guest guest
, Dang my dentist told me that too but its just something I cannot stop and I do try to find the smallest chips or that kind from Sonic that is soft yet crunchy. I am glad my refrigerator has a crushed ice dispenser cause its used daily. > > > I love chewing ice and have done so since a little > > kid. Guest guest
Thanks Pam for clearing that up, I didn't think it had anything to do with iron either but I didn't want to say til I was sure. I too have been an ice chewer since I was a little girl. Laurette 4/23/04 open rny 309/290/231/150 St. Charity Cleveland, Ohio
