Guest guest
Interesting! I think the X-rays are cool, I asked for copies so I'll share mine when I get them. So you have an open bite? What are you having done surgically? L
Guest guest
Yes, I do have an open bite. I was going to take a pic for everyone to laugh at today, but my digital camera's batteries died. I'll have to go pick some up later. In regards to my surgery, my upper jaw will be moved out, the anterior (front) will be moved down, the posterior will be moved up and the whole maxilla will be widened. I don't know the technical terms for it all but I hope that explains it. The Oral Surgeon has not ruled out moving my mandible back, although he is reluctant to do it at this point due to me having sleep apnea. I have a consult with a sleep specialist in September to see if I actually do have sleep apnea or if it's in my head. Cary > Interesting! Guest guest
Hi Cary, a lot of us have open bites, so I don't think any of us would laugh , but I'm looking forward to seeing your pics. I'll be having upper and lower surgery to fix my open bite, and my OMS hasn't mentioned any technical terms to me, but I've learned so much from this board, and it feels good to feel like I'm more on the same page as him Do you wake yourself up a lot during the night? ~Joanne > Yes, I do have an open bite. Guest guest
Oh, I don't think anyone in this crowd is going to laugh at you. Most of us are in the same or similar boats. My problem was the opposite -- deep overbite. My bottom teeth dang near touched the roof of my mouth. I wonder if your (possible) sleep apnea would be improved by moving the upper jaw? Sounds like a good plan to see a specialist. I suspected some apnea in recent years, but never followed up on it. L
Guest guest
Hi Joanne, I really didn't anybody would laugh at me in a mean spirited way. I was mostly trying to be funny. I don't find myself waking up at night. Most of the time I wake up in the morning feeling as though I haven't had any sleep. If I sleep on my side most of the night, everything is fine and I wake up feeling great. You are right though, I've learned so much from this group. Everyone has been extremely helpful to me.
