Guest guest
KIM!!!!! MY GOD>. thank you so much for breaking it down that way about the tolerance of eating the yogart and explaining that up to three cups a day, should be a goal... I just could not find an answer that my starting at two tablespoon fulls was too much or not enough... And as a 'NEWBIE".. I am being made to feel as if my questions will be an interuption in the flow of conversation of the SEASONED SCDer's... Not a very welcoming feeling.. The constant reminders that a question or conversation was discussed in the past makes me feel as the interuption....A single parent working 45 hours a week.. It takes all the time I have to read each post much less find time to back up and read all of the pass conversations.. Even when I did do a search through past conversations I still did not find my answer and had no choice but to ask.. Thanks again for your clear explination.... Just make it weak until you have been symptom-free for a while. Honey may or may not be tolerated well, so I’d start off with a tiny amount at first. The teas allowed are black, ginger, mint; and some say Elaine also allowed green tea although her website still lists it as illegal. I use high quality teas since I only have one cup per day of very weak tea; might as well enjoy it! How much yogurt is entirely an individual tolerance. Some folks start off with small amounts and move quickly up to the maximum Elaine recommended per day (3 cups). Others struggle for months to tolerate one spoonful per day. All you can do is start off with a spoonful per day, perhaps skip a day here and there, until you feel you can increase the amount a bit. There is no set rule on yogurt or probiotics; regular amounts are beneficial, ranging from one spoonful once a week to 3 cups per day every day. Or anything in between. You want some beneficial bacteria in your digestive tract regularly, but that can be once a month or twice a day. All depends on your body’s tolerance and need. Kim M. I have just started phase 2 and was wondering if it would be OK to have some now, or if I should wait longer. Also, are there general recommendations for how much SCD yogurt to start with and how fast to increase amounts for an adult? I have seen various amounts from starting with 1/4 teaspoon to 1/2 cup. I started with 1/4 teaspoon for a week and increased to 1/2 for a few days and then up to 1 teaspoon. I did have some "gurgling" with that, but am not sure if it was due to that or the cider I tried. I know that I shouldn't try more than one new food/drink at a time, but felt that because I had been able to eat applesauce, I could try the cider without expecting problems (it is from a local producer and is cider, not juice). Thanks for your advice. It is a great help to a "newbie".JackieIBS/IBD 4+ yearsSCD June 2010no meds

Guest guest
Thanks to all of you who replied and explainned the reason for stating that a question had been asked before.... With that said.... Here is a question.. The book states that Dole pineapple and pineapple-orange juices truely contain no sugar... I saw on the site it says "Canned".. I was getting mine in the carton in the milk and juice area.. Is the ingredients different? If this is ok.. What about Dole's pineapple-banana and pineapple-strawberry....ect....ect... Also am I correct that no matter what juice .. I am to still mix it 50/50 with water? Or can I drink some whole? Thanks again Diagnoised UC September 2009 Started SCD July 2010 To: BTVC-SCD Sent: Sun, August 1, 2010 3:18:27 PMSubject: Re:Re: SCD questions - tea and yogurt Hi ,We are all newbies at one time, so please feel free to post. Dole might not, for instance, add sugar to a given pineapple juice, but they may buy the banana juice (and you don't know if it was from truly ripe bananas) nor do you know if the producer of the strawberry juice added sugar to the strawberry juice before selling it to Dole. Manufacturers are not required to put on a label anything but what they themselves added to the product, so even if the product they use says " strawberry juice, apple juice, sugar, " because it was sold to them as strawberry juice, they're only required to put " strawberry juice " on the label of THEIR blend. Manufacturers are also not required to list " processing aids, " which make automated production go more smoothly -- even if those processing aids are things like lactose or corn starch to keep the machinery moving. Yes, at the beginning of the diet, you should use diluted juices. Juice can be a pretty stiff shot of fruit sugars and can, undiluted, cause a reaction. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund Babette the Foundling Beagle
