Guest guest
, I myself not being able to answer from experience but I have known several that have gotten pregnant and have had beautiful healthy little bundles of joy. What happened to that poor girl may have happened without having had the bypass. If it wasn't time it just wasn't time. There is a site regarding pregnancy after gastric bypass that is very imformative. Here is the site, this might help http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/OSSG-pregnant/ Good luck to you. Guest guest
I am much to old to be pregnant, but in our support group was a young woman who had and Open RNY and has a happy healthy full term baby boy who is now 9 mos old. I don't know if this procedure would be the cause of pregnancy issues except for you would have to make sure you were taking all the vitamins and folic acid you need to make a healthy baby. Most people don't realize it but you only need to add 300 calories a day for a healthy baby if you haven't had this surgery and most people add much more. Babies also will take what they need first and leave the rest to you in most cases so you will be the one with deficiencies. > i am new to this site and also a post op from gastric bypass. i need > to know if anyone out there can give me any advice on pregnancy > after the surgery. my husband and i want to get pregnant. i have an > appointment with the dr. but all this news lately about the woman > and the 8 month old fetus scares us. any advice would be welcome. > thanks ----jennifer

Guest guest
Hey . When I read through that article, some things popped out at me. First of all, her surgery was performed two years ago. I know that gastric bypass has been around for a long time but they are forever getting better knowledge of it. Second if all, the lady was still 440 pounds. That is a lot of her own weight to be carrying around along with the baby. Maybe they just ran out of room inside. (I know I was 305 when I had my son and the people at Wilford Hall treated me like I was the fattest lady in the world to ever have a baby...haha.still makes me laugh). But I know the more you weigh, the harder it is to carry a baby anyway. Plus, they said that you should wait two years or UNTIL YOUR WEIGHT STABALIZES. My doctor has told me that anyway, to wait until I am stable. That doesn't mean if I were to get pregnant that it wouldn't work. There is a lady on here, I do not remember her name but she was due the beginning of July with a baby boy. Not sure if she has posted here since then, (I am sure she is VERY busy)..hehe. But I know it is possible. Yahoo even has a support group for gastric bypass patients who are pregnant. I don't know the link but maybe if you find it, you can peek in there and see how everyone is doing. I know I myself want one more. I am 31 and have a 3 year old. I wish to wait 2 years just so I can have some time for me and my body. I have been overweight my WHOLE life and when I get to goal, I wanna enjoy it for a few months first!! Hope this has helped!! Guest guest
There are statistics and there are statistics and right now with gastric bypass on the increase and insurance companies not wanting to pay for it the statistics are going to be skewed against gastric bypass. My surgeon had a patient killed in a car accident that is listed under a fatal gastric bypass because he had a bypass and he died. This is just the nature of statistics. Between 1977 - 1981 in the four corners region - Utah, Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona, there was a large class action suit against the US government about medical problems from being exposed to above ground nuclear detonations. These people were suing because of an increased cancer rate, well my sister died in 1979 in Salt Lake City of leukemia and the doctors listed cause of death as heart failure when my father questioned him, he was told no one dies of cancer this year in Utah. The government or whomever was skewing the statistics against the downwinders and their lawsuit. My father got a lawyer and it was changed by the way. Just wanted to point out that remember just because sometime in the past someone had bariatric surgery it may not be a contributing factor in their death but it will be reported as such. > Hey . Guest guest
, I don't know how far out you are. But, they suggest to wait to try to get pregnant anywhere from 18-24 months. My surgeon prefers that her patients wait for a full 24 months. in Delaware Lap RNY 3/10/04 261/179/
