Guest guest Posted May 15, 2005 Report Share Posted May 15, 2005 Derrick Welcome home. It sounds like everything went very well for you. So far, it sounds like you are going through a similar recovery to mine. I didn't have a lot of pain, and I was more uncomfortable than anything. I am 18 days post op now, and most of my swelling has gone down, and I don't really have any pain unless I talk to much, or physically push myself too far. Besides speaking clearly, I have found that the hardest thing to deal with is not being able to eat. I am not really hungry, but I just want real food. I am supposed to get unwired in a little over 2 weeks, and then I will be tightly banded for another week. After that, I am assuming that I will be able to start eating soft food. Finally!! I hope that all continues to go well for you. > Hi guys. Guest guest Posted May 16, 2005 Report Share Posted May 16, 2005 Hi Derrick Welcome back! It feels good to be home, doesn't it? You won't believe how much you improve each day. Yes, keep those ice packs close! Best things ever. Nice that your numbness is minor - I am still numb up to my eyes! Haha. Best wishes for your continued recovery Tarryn > > Hi guys. Guest guest Posted May 16, 2005 Report Share Posted May 16, 2005 Tarryn, it sure is nice to be home. . although sometimes i wish i could be in the hospital on a bed being bed everything through the IV so that i didn't have to get up and move anywhere. maybe not. .. i stopped using ice pack today because i felt all the coldness beginning to make my muscles clench and my neck is very stiff and sore. it's now day 4 and i do feel a little better than yesterday. . i had my first shower since the surgery and what a difference water on my face can do to liven my spirits. i've been eating pretty gross shakes over the last couple days .. what do you eat? i would rather have salty things over sweets anyday at this point. ... one more thing. .. i don't know if it's because of my new jaw position, but the muscles in my face are really pulling and i'm getting minor headaches .... do you experience this as well? does it go away once the muscles get used to their new positions? sorry for all the questions. .. thanks for reading

& nbsp;

derrick

& gt;From: & quot;thebanded77 & quot; & lt;thebanded77@... & gt;
& gt;Reply-To: orthognathicsurgerysupport
& gt;To: orthognathicsurgerysupport
& gt;Subject: [Orthognathic Surgery Support ] Re: surgery done!
& gt;Date: Mon, 16 May 2005 09:55:00 -0000
& gt;
& gt;Hi Derrick
& gt;Welcome back! Guest guest Posted May 16, 2005 Report Share Posted May 16, 2005 Derrick When I needed a salty fix, but wasn't ready for thicker blended food, I drank soup broth. It seemed to take the " salty " edge off.
& gt; & gt; & gt; Hi guys. Guest guest Posted May 17, 2005 Report Share Posted May 17, 2005 Hi Derrick I know what you mean about the IV! I didn't feel very much like eating the first few days, and all I wanted was the IV back to do it for me. I also got really sick of sweet things by the 4th day - what about some clear soup? I'm also eating a lot of yoghurt. But because I just have elastics that I take out to eat anyway, I can eat pretty much anything that doesn't require chewing. My favourite thing at the moment is tiny bits of soft breadroll dipped in soup. But I guess that since you're wired shut, this doesn't really help. I would recommend some thin soup, like chicken. I don't really have headaches, but my right temple and TM joint get quite painful at times. At my first post-op checkup the surgeon said that this was because of the muscles and their new positions. I'm sure it'll go away over time. Happy healing Tarryn
& gt; & gt; & gt; Hi guys.
