Whether you have a distal or a proximal procedure, you have SOME portion of

your intestines bypassed, and therefore have SOME level of malabsorption, and

therefore you are liable to develop certain vitamin or mineral deficiencies if

you do not supplement. You just don't need as MUCH supplementation if you're

proximal, as you do if you're distal. Furthermore, there is the phenomenom

known as hypertrophy, which is your intestines growing/extending to make up for

what they have lost. When, if, this happens, you will lose a certain amount

(maybe all) of your malabsorption and then you will not find it so easy to

maintain your weight loss. In fact, there is a faction of post-ops who believe

that

the way to avoid hypertrophy is to FEED the intestines the nutrients it is

missing due to the malabsorption and fool them into believing they do NOT have

to

try to return to their normal size/length in order to absorb what the body

needs to stay healthy.

For these reasons, I would recommend that you supplement judiciously all the

nutrients that are malabsorbed due to the bypassed duodenum and intestines.
