You just don't need as MUCH supplementation if you're proximal, as you do if you're distal. Furthermore, there is the phenomenom known as hypertrophy, which is your intestines growing/extending to make up for what they have lost. When, if, this happens, you will lose a certain amount (maybe all) of your malabsorption and then you will not find it so easy to maintain your weight loss. In fact, there is a faction of post-ops who believe that the way to avoid hypertrophy is to FEED the intestines the nutrients it is missing due to the malabsorption and fool them into believing they do NOT have to try to return to their normal size/length in order to absorb what the body needs to stay healthy. For these reasons, I would recommend that you supplement judiciously all the nutrients that are malabsorbed due to the bypassed duodenum and intestines.
