Guest guest
Kerri, I only put the cortisone on a couple times, I agree too much of that not a good idea. and dressed him even cooler than I already was and it seems to be all gone, so i think he's fine now. He sweats so much in the helmet. I clean and wash his head at least 2 times a day and very little clothes even though its 30 degrees outside. le From: baileyshea1979 <baileyshea2@...>Subject: Re: heat rash??Plagiocephaly Date: Tuesday, December 8, 2009, 7:34 PM le,I had the same problem with my son. he was about 4 weeks into treatment and these bumps showed up. Also looking like little pimples some with white head on them. they were at the base of the neck and onto his shoulders. when i noticed they showed up I also saw that his head was sweatier then usual. so i bathed him and cleaned the band, then dressed him lighter then i had been. even though i thought he would be cold (and his legs felt chilly) he would still be hot every where else. The rash resolved itself after i did all of this. i never put anything on them though. i felt that if it was heat rash a bath to clean the sweat and dressing lighter would fix it. i dont know that a hydrocortisone cream would be good for that. Keep me posted if you speak to the dr about it and find out any info.thanksKerrimom to ph 9months old 6 wks in doc band>> I have been reading through the old posts about rash but still am not sure how to handle this.> > My son has been in his helmet for 2 weeks, he just developed what looks to be a heat rash...its little red bumps all over his head some look like little pimples...does that sound like heat rash?? it started at his hairline so I put hydrocortizone and it seemd to go away, the next day later it was all over his head...so I left the helemt off last night it seemed much better so put helmet back on today and in the evening its pretty red and bumpy again....so I put cortizone again and then put the helemt on?> > So my question is should I leave the helmet off/how long?? Guest guest
le - I'm not sure what type of band you have but all of the major brands (Hanger, Star, Doc) specifically recommend cleaning the band with rubbing alcohol. Do not use shampoo or water on them. The liners of the band are porous so any water or other cleaning solution will get absorbed into it. It might feel dry but it really isn't and then the water will slowly eek back out and cause skin problems with the moisture sealing against skin. Worse yet, skin irritations can develop from baking soda, Clorox, dial soap, etc. that the sensitive skin of some infants just can't take. Rubbing Alcohol evaporates and won't irritate the skin. It's designed to prevent skin irritation. 4) After one day with no helmet and following these steps, put helmet back on (unless instructed not to), resume normal helmet wearing schedule, but take off and wipe dry 2-3 times a day. 5) If this works, discontinue hydrocortisone. If it persists, try the cream again in addition to the above. This is what I would do. Let us know how it goes. Guest guest
My coworker was just recently adviced that she should use shampoo rather than alcohol due to her son's extremely sensitive skin. It was at the same center that we went to for our STARband; however there is now a second ortho there that she sees. When I expressed alarm, she said that it was written on the sheet that she had been given. I haven't seen the latest sheet since it's been a year since started her band. I'm just wondering if they've now changed their recommendation or if this was an individual ortho who stepped away from the official recommendation. Re: heat rash?? woops, sorry, is assumed that everyone knows to clean with rubbing alcohol. i should have made that step 4. we were advised to clean the band with shampoo first, rinse thoroughly, and then clean with rubbing alcohol and rinse thoroughly. Works amazingly well for us.> >> > I have been reading through the old posts about rash but still am not sure> how to handle this.> > > > My son has been in his helmet for 2 weeks, he just developed what looks to> be a heat rash...its little red bumps all over his head some look like> little pimples...does that sound like heat rash?? it started at his> hairline so I put hydrocortizone and it seemd to go away, the next day later> it was all over his head...so I left the helemt off last night it seemed> much better so put helmet back on today and in the evening its pretty red> and bumpy again....so I put cortizone again and then put the helemt on?> > > > So my question is should I leave the helmet off/how long??
