, I could have written your post word-for-word. We too go in for STARBand eval next week (on the 23rd).

I have been very honest on this forum that I would rather go ahead and start with the band (not just b/c my gal will be 5 mo on the 19th so this is the 'right' time for max results) because it would be wintertime for most of the time she would have it (hopefully) and I wouldn't have my twins out in public a lot anyway.

Honestly, I'm sure it's like anything else-- fear of the unknown at first and then it becoming a normal part of life. I believe it was here on this forum that someone makes a harmless funny when asked about their kid's helmet-- they say 'football injury.' I thought that was pretty cute.

Best of luck next week-- I intend to follow-up with the group, as I'm sure I'll have TONS of questions. But, again, unless we are told that they just *can't* make a band for her, we fully intend on pulling the trigger next week.

,

My son has had his helmet for 3 weeks now. I was worried about the same thing at first, mostly because I am a person who does not like to have attention on myself. What really helped me initially to go out in public and not worry was to look at it as simply a corrective devise that is temporary...if your child had glasses or braces or had a broken leg/cast, etc, you would not be embarrassed, it just happens to be his head. I put his name on it as suggested by others here, and it really has worked to make people feel free to say hello to him. Some have even commented on how they like that I put his name on there. I have had no weird stares at all, no seems to feel sorry for him, and so many people come up to my son and talk to him and comment how cute. I have found that most people actually have no clue what its for, some may ask nicely what does the helmet do, so I simlpy tell them its

reshaping his head. Several men have made comments about "how cool" is that, I think they must think its for sports or something? LOL and some ask if hes a football player already.

so don't worry about it, it will be fine, just remember you are doing what is best for your child, and really, no else will care at all about the helmet.

Hello, My baby is getting fitted for the band next week. I am worried that after he is wearing it I will be afraid to go out and have people stare or feel sorry for him. I am looking for a support group of other mama's to reassure me that everything will be ok.
