This question is for the guys in the group, which is not to many of

us.

Is shaving with a razor blade difficult since the face will be numb

and you will not feel any razor cuts after the surgery? Is an

electric razor better?

Let me know what everyone recommends for this.

Good question. Even though I'm not there yet (I'm

still pre-op like you), I would definitely not shave

wet for a while. I don't think you can do any damage

with the electric razor, you can't really cut yourself

with it. Or just grow a beard...(HaHa)

My surgery was 5/26,and as of today, I still haven't shaved. I will

take care of that before I go back to work on 6/13. I'm terrified

that I will do something to hurt myself!

I had to wear a mask for the first 3 days, so by the time I took it

off, I badly needed a shave. I was too afraid the first day, so I

waited till day 5 to shave with my electric shaver.

Unfortunately, the mask left glue on my face for about a week (it

just wouldn't wash off, partly because I didn't want to scrub too

hard), which my electric shaver didn't like. I sort of ruined it,

but I managed to shave nonetheless. It wasn't a pleasant experience

and took a good 20 minutes, but there was no pain involved, probably

thanks to the numbness.

It's been 2 months and shaving with an electric shaver is starting

to become a nightmare now that my nerves are waking up. The

vibrations are shocking my bottom teeth, so I just growl and try to

make it quick. I wonder if a blade would have been less troublesome.

I was able to shave, with a razor, 4 days post op. It was not too

bad. My neck was starting to itch so I decided to try and shave

everything. The hardest part of my face to shave was right under my

lower lip. Just go slow and be very careful!

Hi Steve,

I had upper/lower surgery one year ago, yesterday. After the

surgery, I did not shave until the fourth day and I used a razor. It

felt a little weird, but I had no problem . . . I was just extremely

careful though. Before I had my surgery, I also asked about

shaving. One guy posted the following:

" I am 16 days post-op for upper jaw only. I could not and did not

want to shave for about a week or so. Once my swelling went down I

felt more comfortable shaving gently with a razor and cream, tried

electric for about a second but the vibration did not feel

comfortable. I shave daily now with no problems and will probably

try electric razor in a few days. Good Luck. If you were like me and

worrying about shaving, then that means everything else is going

great. "

I definitely concur with that last line! Best wishes on your surgery!

With regards,

Steve:

Reinforcing what Dale said -- I had lower only done in March and

found shaving difficult at first. It took a couple of weeks to get

the hang of it but prevailed in that time. Go slow, use a fresh

blade, and watch carefully in the mirror.

Three months down the line I have pretty much full feeling in the

left side and the right side is coming along. The whole face

numbness thing was about the most disconcerting part of the post-op

procedure because progress is slow and no one can give you a

firm " if and when " kind of prognosis on recovery. Slow and steady is

the norm.

I stopped shaving for a week, but then did it with blades. But i chose to leave

a goatee for a little while jsut because i was afraid of shaving my 'numb patch'

on the left of my chin. But i have since then shaved lots of times and its no

big deal (for me) but if you feel more comfortable using an elecctric shaver, I

can see the benefits.
