Guest guest
Joanne I ended up not using zip n squeeze bags at all. 24 hours post op I was drinking water out of a plastic cup the nurse at the hospital gave me. For the first couple of days I just kept on using plastic cups to drink out of because the plastic is softer on the lips and teeth to drink out of (not that you can feel anything but it ensures that you don't hurt yourself). Then I graduated to little espresso cups and after that started eating soup with a baby spoon. About two weeks post-op I started eating soft food with a baby fork. I can't recall off the top of my head whether you're being banded or wired so maybe none of the above applies to you. I was splinted and tightly banded for the first 9 days and now have lighter elastic bands that I can remove to eat and brush my teeth. Anyway, just wanted to let you know that even without zip n squeeze eating is VERY possible. Guest guest
Hi Sara, I'll be getting upper and lower jaw surgery, and my OS did mention plates and screws, and wire cutters, so I guess I will be wired shut. Thanx for the reassurance! :-) ~Joanne > Joanne > > I ended up not using zip n squeeze bags at all. 24 hours post op I was > drinking water out of a plastic cup the nurse at the hospital gave me. > For the first couple of days I just kept on using plastic cups to drink > out of because the plastic is softer on the lips and teeth to drink out > of (not that you can feel anything but it ensures that you don't hurt > yourself). Guest guest
Joanne, I had upper/lower surgery almost two months ago. I have four screws, no plates. I have a splint and have been wired shut since my surgery - on a completely liquid diet. I just wanted to chime in because my Surgeon sent me home with wire cutters. I've carried them around everywhere. Just having them makes me feel better. I believe that only 1 in 1500 of my Surgeon's patients has ever had to use them - so that was good to know. But, knowing they were on my person at all times - in case of emergency - was really a big help for me. Just my two cents. Good luck as you move forward, Carol > > Joanne > > > > I ended up not using zip n squeeze bags at all. 24 hours post op I > was > > drinking water out of a plastic cup the nurse at the hospital gave > me. > > For the first couple of days I just kept on using plastic cups to > drink > > out of because the plastic is softer on the lips and teeth to drink > out > > of (not that you can feel anything but it ensures that you don't > hurt > > yourself).
