Guest guest
I just put down about 12 oz of water in pretty short order here. Sometimes it's an effort, sometimes not. I've never waited before the meal to drink Thanks, Vitalady, Inc. Guest guest
I would absolutely indulge any desire to drink water at any time, except for at least an hour after a meal. You can't drink too much, and if you're exercising, etc., and ESPECIALLY if you're thirsty, you need it. I load up right before I eat because I know it's going to be a while. in Austin RNY April 1998 Just a lil question about liquids > I know the drinking rules 20 minutes b4 and 30 after.... but what > I want to know is if it is bad to just guzzle down a glass of water > (because I am sooo thirsty waiting the 30 minutes after)... or > should I just be sipping here and there.... Guest guest
I must confess, I have been pretty slack about the water rule. Generally I even eat with meals. (bite, sip, bite, sip). This is even worse than drinking too soon after a meal. In the past it has not been a problem for me, because I have been struggling to keep the weight on. However, my honeymoon is over. I am a little over two years out and have gained 5 lbs in the last month. It makes me cringe just to type it. So, I started following the water rule a few days ago and was appalled at how much less I can eat when I don't drink with my meals. It's not so much that I was getting hungry sooner, it's just that I could eat so much more at one sitting. What an eye opener! I've gotta get on track before the 5lbs turns into 20 lbs. I'm so grateful for this group! Barbara Jean Re: Just a lil question about liquids > I would absolutely indulge any desire to drink water at any time, except for > at least an hour after a meal. Guest guest
Hi Barbara, Its something about the two year mark that seems to effect most of us, that reality check that when we move away from the rules or slack off in our eating habits, lo and behold, we can gain...I'm 20 months and have found that if I let the snacking get away from me (my version of drinking with meals), I will quickly gain a few pounds. Like you, I'm determined to tackle it while it is just a few pounds and not 20. Pre-op, ho-hum, I may have noticed after 20 pounds and may have attempted to do something at 25 or higher....what a difference.
