Guest guest
how old is your son and has the head grown at all? Getting Frustrated with no progess My son has had a Hanger Helmet for about 4 months now. He was 7 months old when we first got it. He started out with a difference of 20 mm and after 6 weeks it went down to 13 mm. After the 6 week measurement that has not been any progress. I am really getting frustrated and want to take the helmet off but I want his head to round out so bad. His ears are still misaligned. I keep telling my self that we just need another growth spurt but when will that be. Has anyone put a helmet on their child and not received the results you were looking for? I definitely don't want to do an second band. The main reason is we can't afford it because insurance has't and will not pay for the first helmet. Please help. Guest guest
Has the circumference grown in that time and just not the asym? Has the band been adjusted along the way? I would wonder if the band is acting more like a passive band if there is no change in that length of time. Obviously, when you will have change is during a growth spurt... and growth slows as the baby gets older. I understand that you don't want to go for a 2nd band if it is our of pocket... that is alot. But I am surprised that the baby has not outgrown the band in 4 months. Guest guest
He is now 11 months old. I think the last time the ortho measured the size of his head and it increased by 5 cm. That's why I don't understand why his head isn't rounding out like it should. The ortho keeps saying that we need the growth spurt that we had in the beginning but if I remember right his head only increased by 6 cm at that time. Sometimes I wonder if we should find a different ortho. > > how old is your son and has the head grown at all? > > > > > > Ticker id: IvP3Â Â Ticker id: yZZPÂ Â Â Â Ticker id: lFno > > > > Getting Frustrated with no progess > > Â > > > > > My son has had a Hanger Helmet for about 4 months now. Guest guest
Yes the last time he was measured his head grew 5 cm but there was no change in the asym. We were there last Friday and he heated the helmet up and expanded the back of it because he said doing that would make it last longer. I think he is starting to grow out of it and the ortho just made more room to give him more time in the helmet. Each time we go back he shaves off some in the key spots. , my son, has a lot of hair right now so you really can't tell where the flat spot is unless you sit him in front of a mirror and it doesn't look like the helmet has helped much at all. > > Has the circumference grown in that time and just not the asym? > Has the band been adjusted along the way? > I would wonder if the band is acting more like a passive band if there > is no change in that length of time. Guest guest
My son got his band when he was 6.5 months old. He got some great correction the first 5 weeks in the band and then his growth really slowed down - only improved by 1 mm over a 9 week period. Like you, I was ready to give up. However, I stuck it out and he had another growth spurt and improved by a couple more mm. Has the circumference in his head been changing much? If there hasn't been growth there then perhaps you are due for another growth spurt soon. Guest guest
I'm assuming that you mean mm rather than cm. Growth in babies tends to occur more at that level. Are these hand measurements or computer scans? I would be concerned about 5 mm of growth without any kind of change. Have you seen other kind of change besides the daigonal differences? The STARband computer scans show overall symmetry in the volume of the head, but I'm not sure what the Hanger scans show. What does the ortho say about the lack of change with 5 mm?
