Helena,

Basically, the only thing I am allowed to take without clearing by my surgeon

first is Tylenol and Tylenol products.

I was told no Advil, no Aleve and no Aspirin products. Only Tylenol

for OTC meds. Other RX meds by MD okay if they do not contain the

following and primary care physician knows about the restrictions,

too. Janet

Here is a list from another group I belong to of the pouch damaging

meds to avoid after surgery and the ones that are ok:

Approved and Unapproved Medications for WLS Patients

Here's a list. Keep it handy.

Okay, I must admit that I was never told about this drug thing and have been

having female complications. I have been sucking down Midol and pamprin like

crazy.... what am I doing to myself here?? I'm a little worried now. :(

It blows me away that something as important as this was never emphasized by the

surgeon to some people. I am still pre op and my surgeon spoke of this in the

seminar I went to before even deciding on the surgery, then it has been

mentioned in almost every conversation I have had with my surgeons office since.

What do these people think, that patients are going to do, just wake up and know

this? It sure seems like some surgeons after care is lacking.

This is not a " per doctor " issue. Confirm with yours for the sole

purpose of being told exactly why. But we cannot have anything with an

aspirin base or any anti-inflammatory medications. There was a patient

of my doctors (and I did confirm this with the doctor) who took 2 Aleve

not thinking about what she was doing and they sat and sat until they

essentially ate a hole in her pouch, when the pain and discomfort

started the doctor went in a discovered the problem. As long as it's

Tylenol or Nyquil it's ok, anything else needs to be confirmed is

pretty much what I go by.
