Guest guest
Yes. For sleep: Ask your doc whether you can take some Benedryl, or whether there's another sleep aid that might help more. For the upset and depressed: Realize that you may be having a biochemical reaction to the anesthesia and/or steroids. Also talk with your doc about this. There are simple, short-term prescriptions that may be helpful there, too. Exercise, within limits, will probably help with the depression, as well. I'm NOT advocating running a marathon here, but brief walks outside, and indulging in whatever you enjoy -- a new CD, a milkshake, a nice soaky bath, a massage, the latest Harry Potter (if that's what turns you on) or anything you can think of that you'd enjoy and can manage, is a good idea. Hey, you're the patient. You've been taken apart and put back together. You're probably speech-challenged, eating-challenged and maybe even moving-around challenged, at the moment. So give yourself a bunch of breaks. And find some things you like to do and can manage. A video you've been meaning to check out? If all else fails, find someone who's worse off than you are, and lend whatever kind of hand you can... That's a sure-fire energy and equilibrium booster! These troubles will pass, I promise. Do be sure to get enough liquids and enough food -- both will help. Guest guest
Hi (?) Why are you depressed? Is it the lack of sleep that's got you off kilter, or something else about how you are feeling? In terms of sleep, I would recommend not counting on sleeping at night. Sleep whenever you can. In terms of depression, this is a normal stage of transition in life, especially following a surgery. Be gentle with yourself, and remind yourself that this a stage that will change and pass, and that your job is to nurture your healing and focus on getting better.
