Guest guest
This is one to ask a radiologist, I'd think. Your local hospital must have a department of radiology. Call 'em. I can tell you that I've been allowed in the room with a patient having an MRI when I was wearing full braces -- ceramic upper and metal lower. (I had to remove my jewelry.) The patient had a metal pin (screw) in his shoulder. Also PT and CT scans with the pin, and with at least one staple visible on x-rays, in his neck... Guest guest
Having had an MRI in the past and being concerned about needing another, I'd asked my OS about this. He said I would still be able to have an MRI. To the best of my knowledge, titanium, which is what my screws, at least, are made of, is a non-magnetic metal, whereas the stainless steel pins that were referred to contain iron which is magnetic, and hence can't go into an MRI machine. - > This is one to ask a radiologist, I'd think. Guest guest
Yes, you can still have an MRI after surgery. I've had an MRI of my jaws since my orthognathic surgery and this was with braces, plates, screws, etc. I've had several CT scans as well. All that metal may affect the quality of the scan somewhat but it can still be done. > This is one to ask a radiologist, I'd think. Your local hospital must > have a department of radiology. Guest guest
, That's exactly the answer I was hoping for! I'm so concerned about animal patients that I forget there are other materials out there for the same procedures! Oh, well... our " real " surgery courses aren't until this fall, so I'm sure I'll get over that soon! Thanks! Kate > > This is one to ask a radiologist, I'd think.
