For the first 6-7 years on SCD, I made my own onion and garlic powders. In fact, that was one of the few things I remembered to take with me when we evacuated for Hurricane Katrina in 2005. We have a letter in the library which says that Penzey's onion and garlic powders are legal. However, I still prefer, for the most part, to make my own onion and garlic powders. For one thing, commercial onion powder is always white onion. If I make my own, I can have white, yellow, red, green, and vidalia onion powders. (And any other kinds of onions I happen to find!) Ditto the garlic -- I can have regular garlic and elephant garlic, and.... Introduce spices and so forth the same way you would introduce any new food. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund Babette the Foundling Beagle

Guest guest
I don't think Spice Island is legal. I ended up ordering a new batch of spices from Penzey's. It was a bit of an investment, but they last a long time. I still cook other non scd food for my family and I use the old spices when I cook dishes I can't eat anyway. I love Penzey's spices anyway. Guest guest
I love Penzey's and am lucky enough to have one about five minutes from my house. I use several of their spices with no problems. I was sad to find (at least at my location) that none of their vanilla was legal. I ended up having to go to Whole Foods. > > > > >
