Guest guest
I started my son very fearfully on goat yogurt last June...about five weeks in to SCD. He did fine with it. Next, we tried goat cheese. After about a month of the goat dairy, we cautiously tried cow yogurt simply because of the cost. He did just fine. We always use organic cow milk to make the yogurt, but don't use organic SCD legal cow cheeses because the organic is so very expensive. iel has progressed so incredibly in the past 11 months in behavior and language. He doesn't score on the spectrum in the various evaluations anymore. He always scores as developmentally delayed at this point although we do not consider him recovered yet. The SCD yogurt and legal cheeses have not hindered his progress one bit. I say go for it. Just start slow and observe very carefully. Meleah DCCC I'm thinking of introducing DCCC into my daughters diet along with other cheeses, gradually. My DAN doctor has told me that he has never has a child be cured of autism if they were using any form of dairy. I have read the science behind the reason why ASD kids can tolerate certain cheeses, and it seems to make sense, BUT I don't want to jeopordise my daughters chances of a cure. Does anyone have a success story to give me any form of encouragement?

Guest guest
, Do you give your daughter the SCD yogurt(goat or cow)? What gave me the nerve to try the yogurt was Jodi Goddard's story. Her son couldn't handle what most people consume for dairy prior to SCD. He would jump baby gates, climb over chairs, scale the cabinets and counters, ect. to get a hold of a glass of milk. He would go through a good gallon per day. She was my SCD counselor right at the very beginning of SCD. I had pulled milk out of iel's diet about two weeks prior to SCD, but was really unsure if he was even one of those kids that milk affected so badly. I really never had a big milk problem at my house. In fact, I had a hard time getting him to drink the 16oz. per day that the pediatricians recommend, and he rarely ate cheese. He was a big bread and pasta guy. Still, I was afraid of the dairy because of what so many other parents reported. Jodi told me her story about her son being one of those classic kids that dairy makes crazy, and he was able to handle it in the form of goat yogurt and goat cheeses a little while after starting SCD. She was very afraid, and his first try of goat yogurt was only a tiny drop about the size of a pencil eraser. Nothing happened. A few days later, she tried double that amount. Nothing happened. She cautiously increased, and discovered that he was just fine with properly made goat products. When we spoke almost a year ago exactly, he had been SCD for about five years, I believe. She still hadn't tried to move on to cow yogurt and cheeses because she just wasn't ready to experiment that far since he was pretty much recovered. I don't know where she is with SCD now since she doesn't participate as a counselor anymore, or even on the list. Since I shared my experience, and my son never had a big problem(that I could tell) before SCD, I thought I'd share what happened with someone who has done SCD for many years with her son. Guest guest
Hi , I have been reading and participating in the SCD children's lists since the beginning. I have found the following pattern. Some kids cannot tolerate the yogurt and experience regressions BUT the regressions stop once the yogurt is discontinued and the child returns to baseline. The parents did not lose anything by trying since the child's regression was only temporary. Many children do great with the yogurt and see that the yogurt brings tremendous improvements in cognition and digestive issues. Why do some children not tolerate the yogurt? For many it might be a die off reaction that can end and will be followed by a time of progress. Only once did I read about an unfortunate reaction. The mother admitted that she increased the yogurt too rapidly and the child had a difficult time for 3 weeks. However, even that child was able to return to where he was prior to the yogurt trial. I have seen many kids recover with the SCD yogurt. !! I give both my son and daughter the yogurt. Even my daughter who hates SCD tells me that the yogurt makes her feel better. When my daughter complies with SCD, she makes very dramatic improvements. Unfortunately, she has not complied for long enough periods. My son started SCD at the age of 17 and has done well. When SCD was introduced to the ASD community, the doctors were shocked and protested vigorously the use of dairy. We are seeing a change in attitude among the doctors. The doctors who have many patients doing SCD are beginning to appreciate the SCD yogurt. BTW, if you plan to try dairy foods, please start out with goat products and avoid the DCCC since it is usually made from cow milk Mimi

You can get it from Waitrose, large Tesco's or Sainsburys. I go to Waitrose. You can also buy Total Authentic Greek Yoghurt from Tesco's, but this does not contain lactobacillus acidophilus so this would need to be supplemented. Hope this helps. Guest guest
Hi, Somehow I missed this message, so I apologize for not replying sooner. No, I do not give my son any yogurt of any kind. ly, it's just not worth it to me. I do give him acidophilus, though. The rest of our family doesn't really eat dairy, either, so it wasn't a big deal to us to leave it out.
