Guest guest
Hey all, checking in to say hi, and to kinda fill in some of my missing in action causes and why's. I have frequent falls due to tremors and shakes, unsteady gait.. and all the everything else that goes with it. They are called myoclonic tremors.. when these things start they are involuntary its almost like a miss firing of the muscles.. there's even a little shock even with some of these when they are happening.. so a couple of weeks ago I fell three times injuring my coccyx (tailbone) they say I didn't break it but, if I had it couldn't have been more painful. My son, Damian is set to go back to college from summer break on the 23rd of this month and he was really upset that I'd fall and I couldn't get to a phone or get hurt really bad and no one to check up on me, that he moved me back in with my elderly parents. My dad has Parkinson's and he has frequent falls like me. So I guess with the two fallers that we are she can just pile us up together at least someone will know that we have fallen..lol I've found a really great Rheumatologist she's injected both my knees as well as my R hip, and thank goodness its given me some great relief from these joints... So that's where I've been.. my computer hasn't been hooked up yet neither has my home phone been installed yet, I hope to be back online next Tuesday. Hope everyone has a good weekend! Hugs, To: neurosarcoidosis Sent: Fri, August 6, 2010 9:54:23 AMSubject: Sarkies, sarkies, lend me your ears. Hey, y'all! Let's try another check-in. We only got a few responses last time, but now it's August! Dog days of summer for some, winter for others. I'm so sick of this heat, I'd do cartwheels in the street if it would bring snow. Well, not really, but I'd go stand out in the street. It cooled down a bit last night & it's not so steamy hot this morning. The heat just seems to sap all my energy. Yesterday some church friends & I had a splash day at church with a kiddie pool, sprinkler, water balloons & homemade slip n slide. Even the teens had a good time. I was happy just getting wet. Other than the heat, I've been about the same. More emotional issues than anything else. My daughter Theresa & her two youngest, -16 & Jon-9, just spent a week in Texas. The kids visited their dads, with mixed experiences. Jon hadn't seen his father since he was a baby. His dad sends him Christmas & birthday presents, but otherwise has little contact. Even down there his dad only spent one afternoon just with Jon & hasn't called him since they returned to Indiana. 's dad called her names & tried to humiliate her in front of her girlfriend, who also made the trip. He also tried to "give" her a junker car, which she can't drive for 6 months, and is "unsafe at any speed." (Trivia fans: who wrote a book by that title? Answer at end of post.) On the positive side, Jon's dad bought him some clothes, including school shirts, & 's dad gave her $100 as a belated birthday present. The other stressful situation is my brother in Houston. On Tuesday he had surgery for 2 aneurysms on his pulmonary arteries. He's 68, been on blood thinners for many years & has other health issues, so I was very concerned. They had to split the sternum & put him on heart-lung bypass to do the repair. Tuesday night he had some bleeding problems, but they got him stable. He's been in ICU since surgery, but should be moved to a regular room today. I wish I could have gone down there, but just couldn't do it. He's not totally out of the woods yet, but I'm feeling better about it. Okay, trivia answer: Ralph Nader wrote Unsafe at Any Speed, criticizing American auto safety, especially the Corvair (not to be confused with the Corvette!). Our family had a Corvair, probably one of the nicer cars we had during my childhood. All right, let's see who else can top my combination of whining & trivia. Guest guest
, aren't you glad to have a son that worries about you? You did a great job raising Damian. Maybe you need to strap a hunk of foam rubber to your backside. Even a bruised tailbone can hurt for a long time. We'll be here when you get back online. Guest guest
, I'm sorry to hear you are having so much trouble, isn't there anything they can give you, like an anti seizure drug? I know when I'm tired my hands start to tremble, but sleep will help that. I'm always afraid of falling, I walk slower then my Mom whom came to live with us recently, and she's almost 89. I told my husband I feel better about the handicap placard I use now that they see an elderly lady step out of the car:) She has trouble with one hip, and I fear her falling even more, I wish she would just get it replaced, but she's a nurse too, and is too stubborn. Anyway take care and know your in my prayers, and what a wonderful son you have. Marla Hey all, checking in to say hi, and to kinda fill in some of my missing in action causes and why's. Guest guest
Thanks Jackie, I don't have the lifeline button, but a friend of mine said she could get me a order form for it.. However, I have already moved into with my parents, my dad is endstage Parkinson's and my mom was getting just a tad scared at night that he may pass with her there alone, so its working well for the two of us, so far.. Rose, I have "NO" idea what that is.. I'm at the library computer for now, my line should be put in sometime tomorrow before noon.. WooHoo, I miss my internet.. Guest guest
I hope things will improve for you. has the same issues you describe. The doctors always refer to hers as her ataxia when he body just spasms and she loses her balance. This is when she has done the most damage to herself. This was how she fell against the slate in our living room that surrounds the fireplace and split her knee wide open. My understanding form our doctors was that there was not much that can be done about these involuntary tremors and that just sucks in plain English. The medicines she is on for the rest of it is suppose to help but they only work a little to keep the tremors at bay. I am not sure if any of the medicines used for Parkinsons will help you. We tried several for her hand tremors but the side affects were awful and she had to stop taking them. Take care of yourself. MattSubject: Re: Sarkies, sarkies, lend me your ears. To: Neurosarcoidosis Date: Friday, August 6, 2010, 1:46 PM Hey all, checking in to say hi, and to kinda fill in some of my missing in action causes and why's. Guest guest
Matt, when I was still working as a nurse-midwife my tremors were interfering with my ability to function safely. They put me on Remeron, which did help the tremors quite a bit, but really accelerated my weight gain! I had been slowly gaining weight from Pred, but it really shot up from the Remeron. Eventually I had to quit working for other reasons & stopped the Remeron. Ramblin' RoseModerator A merry heart is good medicine.
