I haven't been on here for a long long time but thought I would chime

in. I had upper and lower done almost 3 years ago this Aug. It's a

terrifying thing to think about but so many of us here have gone

through it and are so glad we did. I wasn't wired but banded tightly.

I lost about 9 pounds the first few days but found a couple of things

that helped me back quickly. Boost Plus has more calories and tastes

better than the reqular Boost or Ensure. The main thing that helped me

was peanut butter chocolate shakes. It tasted so good and I gained the

weight right back. I used the Zip-n-squeeze and highly recommend them.

Hey le...

I just underwent double jaw surgery, had some work done with my

sinuses to help breath better, and had three impacted wisdom teeth

removed almost 4 weeks ago.

I was scared to death up until the surgery. At one point I almsot

threw my hands up and said " forget it! " . But after many tears I

convinced myself that it would all be worth it in the long run.

I had pretty much no pain what-so-ever and also didn't have much

of an appetite for a while. However they made me start eating things

like broth and Ensure (just FYI Chocolate is the best I've found

LoL). I wasn't taking in the proper amounts of liquids I should have

been so my surgeon kept me in the hospital for an extra night. I was

in the hospital for 4 nights. The worst part of the whole thing was

the hospital stay. Nurses are constantly in and out annoying you and

stuff. LoL

But anyway, I'm rambling on and on and not answering your

question. LoL To ease your fears some... it's really not that

horrible of an ordeal. The hardest part is definitely not being able

to eat normally. Being wired shut (I'm actually banded) isn't so

bad. It doesn't hurt or anything. Like with normal every day life

there are up days and there are down days when you're recovering

from this kind of surgery. Personally when I would have a down day I

was rock bottom. There were times when I would just throw my feeding

tube down and cry like a baby because all I wanted to do was drink

out of a glass like a normal person but couldn't. (just FYI crying

isn't a good idea when you have your mouth banded shut... you're

nose clogs up and I've come close to suffocating because I couldn't

get any air in. LoL) My family has been very supportive and helpful

with the whole situation. We've decided that when it's time for them

to cook dinner or eat, I go and take a long bubble bath or shut

myself in my room and watch a movie so that I don't have to be

around them and smell the food. It helps A LOT.

On my last appointment with my surgeon (3 and a half weeks post

op) he removed all of the bands except for one on each side. Opening

up was difficult at first because everythings stiff. He said that in

a few days I'll be able to start eating soft foods like pasta and

mashed potatoes and soft fish or even chicken. The only thing is

that I also have a splint thats attached to my top teeth thats gonna

be in there a while longer. So that may make eating a little harder.

I didn't have anybody to talk to or help me through with this

thing when I went through it... I wanna help people so they don't

have to go into it blind like I did.
