Guest guest
Meaghan It is very likely that the antibiotics you took disrupted your gut ecology, so it will take you time to repair the damage. It could also be a healing phase, or could be caused by something you swallowed (food or supplement), or perhaps extra stress has taken its toll. Or some combination of causes. The first thing to do is fall back to your intro. diet foods for a day or two, then just add a few easy-to-digest foods. Don’t take any supplements for a few weeks, although if you’re on medications continue with them. See if things improve for you once you fall back to soft, easy-to-digest foods. If they do improve, then you know the problem was either a food or supplement so you can start testing things. If things don’t improve, head for your doctor since you might need alternative medications that will be more effective for you. It is very likely that the antibiotics have put your digestion back to beginning levels, so you’ll need to stick to easy foods for several months at least. Try to take in probiotics regularly, not necessarily every day unless your body tolerates them; either our 24-hour yogurt or a legal L. Acidophilus or S. Boulardii supplement. If the symptoms do improve once you’ve stopped supplements, and fallen back to your safe foods, then you stay at that level for a month or two until your symptoms improve. But then you start testing. Check all foods for hidden illegals (look at the packaging labels). When you’re ready to try a “new” food, more advanced than your safe foods, start with a small amount, once, then wait a few days before trying it again. Your digestion may not be ready for much for a while. When you’re ready to add a supplement, start check over the ingredient list of every supplement you want to use. Even a multivitamin can contain some illegals. It is usually best to only take a few supplements that are meeting your body’s deficiencies, so only take the most critical. Some of us can’t handle any supplements when we’re flaring, so you may need to wait a few months before you add back a supplement. You also may need to test different brands of supplements, since some work better for us than others. Having a flare at 12 or 16 months can be common for some folks; part of the healing journey. But since you mention taking antibiotics, you’ve probably found your culprit. Your digestion will need some time to recover, so just stick to your safe foods. Kim M. SCD 6 years Sphincter of Oddi dysfunction 6+ years neurological & spinal deterioration 3+ years >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> I had been doing well for a while.. A few months ago I had to take some antibiotics and that messed me up alittle so I was taking cort enemas which usually help alot after a couple weeks then I slowly go off them, from every night to every other, every third and so on. I was at the point of every other night fir about a week. BUT on Friday I started feeling worse and my BM's got worse progressively since then. Now I'm having basically only blood and liquid with urgency/frequency. I didn't eat anything out of the ordinary (I don't think anyway). I have started taking legal acidophilus and s.boulgari (sp?) about 2-3 wks ago. Does this sound like die off from the probiotics? Could that happen? Ive been on the diet about a year and a half. Maybe its a good old fashioned flare? Not sure what to do... Thanks in advance, Meaghan
