please be patient, all of us are dealing with sarc also, and it may be a day or two before you get answers.

Sarc as you know can effect us anywhere. Foot drop can be caused by a pinched nerve in your low back, or even having sit down with your legs crossed so that the nerve going to the foot was impinged-- can cause this.

Diabetic neuropathy can cause foot drop. So it can be alot of things. I emailed an article on foot drop that is very basic, and this is an issue to discuss with your doc.

The leg cramps can be from dehydration- which causes your electrolytes to go out of balance--and that sets of some real issues throughout the body. If you go to our MESSAGE ARCHIVES you can search by dehydration you'll find a huge number of posts.

I apologize that I'm not able to address this issue in more depth right now-- as I'm dealing with various issues myself.

NS can mimic multi-sclerosis, with alot of the same issues, and the testing is the same.

You can have short-term memory loss, weakness of the extremities, speech and language confusion (I love to make use "apple sauce" for spaghetti sauce-- at least it's on the red train..) and such.

Sarcoidosis is not going to kill you. It will make you adjust how you deal with life, and you have to learn to pace yourself, listen to your body, and when you're tired, rest.

You will adapt, and many of us are LIVING with sarcoidosis and have been LIVING with it for 20 and 30 yrs! So don't let the doomsday thinking take over. You'll be wasting the time you have right now...

Do take care,

Diane, I started an answer to your first post & got interrupted. By the time I got back online, I had forgotten all about it. This happens a lot to me, especially when I'm tired. I was going to say that foot drop can have many causes, sarc being one of them, but there are other issues to consider. I don't know your age or work experience, but I'm a nurse, retired after 35 years. We all knew good body mechanics, but often violated them because of lack of available help, or more often, feeling young, strong & invincible! Anyway, I've had intermittent back & leg pain for close to thirty years, sometimes so bad that I have to lie down on my back (in public places) to get any relief. Most of the disks in my spine are builging, impinging on nerve roots, etc. Until several years ago, the problems were all will my lower extremetries, but then I turned over in bed wrong & blew the 6-7 vertebra. Definitely the worst pain I have ever experienced, not in my neck at first--only after the muscle stasms rendered my neck immobile--but in my shoulder & arm. Within a week, I had lost the tendon reflexes in my right arm & were decreasing in my hand. Then the numbness joined; all the way down my arm. I was still working as a nurse-midwife, but it was tricky. I tried traction for a few weeks, but ended up having surgery on my cervical spine. The pain relief was immediate, the muscles weakness & reflexes recovered shortly after, and the numbness hung on for a few weeks, but improved steadily. Now this all happened in 2000, 6 months after the bilateral hearing loss & facial palsy, but 6 months before the fatigue, leg weakness, tremors, yada, yada, yada started. I believe plain & simple that all this was related to my long-term deterioration of my total spine. The surgery fixed it all. I've know many people, medical professionals & not, with similar stories; including some with foot drop. That is a fairly common event. I would get a neuro or ortho eval, including MRI's, and make sure you have a thorough physical assessment, reflexes, temperature & touch sensations. If it's going to be a while before you can see a doc, rig up something to brace your foot in bed, watching tv, etc. You could even twist a sheet, place your foot in the loop & pull the ends up to hold them, sit on 'em, whatever.

It's so easy to blame everything on sarc, and it's good to consider sarc as the source of any new symptoms. But try not to develop tunnel vision & forget all the other possibilities.

Sorry about the long letter; I have to live up to my nickname! Best of luck.
