Guest guest
At 2 plus years postop I started experiencing higher blood pressures. This was after more than two years of wonderful 118/72 readings regularly. It seemed to start getting higher a few months after emergency surgery for a bowel obstruction. I was previously hypertensive prior to my WLS, but fine for a couple of years afterward. What meds are being used by folks after WLS? Because of my malabsorption (the original BPD with distal RNY Scopinaro-type, and then later losing another foot and half of common channel because of the BO) my primary Doc is trying to find something that will get the BP down into a normal range. He has not been successful yet. Has anyone had a similar problem? Is there any information about any borderline nutitional issues, or some post-op issues that might cause this blood pressure increase? I know for sure that it not weight-related like they used to tell me before WLS. I have maintained 174-178 (often 176) steadily for the last 2 and a half years with a BMI of 24. Which is below the 200 lbs that was my original goal. I could accept a high bp when I was 329 but not now, after I have worked so hard to be " normal. " Any suggestions would be welcome. So far Lisinopren, Metaprolol, and Clonadine ( 1 each daily) are not working. Rick S.
Guest guest
I was hypertensive pre and still post op. Will be three years in November. My current meds are Toprol XL, Norvasc, Clonadine, Accupril, Diovan, and a water pill. When the channel blocker was added, Norvasc, it seemed to kick the others in. For now this combination is working. Neci
Guest guest
Kathy, That is soooo good to hear. I guess the fact that I don't take anymore cholesterol medication and I'm not over 300 lbs make me thankful. Besides there are so many things big as walking long distances to as small as being able to tie my shoes that makes me grateful. The surgeon was hoping my BP would be better post op. He has now accepted the fact that my BP is not from obesity. Neci

I am now medication free!!! kathy ********************* Remember, progress is more about direction then speed.
