Guest guest
Hi Meaghan- Several people on the list have written about antibiotics triggering a flare. Is this the first time you have taken the probiotics? Blood/liquid/urgency sounds like a flare. Do you use any medication? I would go back to intro with lots of soups and do whatever you need to to get better: intro-stage 1 foods, medication if necessary. Don't let the bleeding and D get out of hand or go on too long. PJ > > Hello all, > I had been doing well for a while.. A few months ago I had to take some antibiotics and that messed me up alittle so I was taking cort enemas which usually help alot after a couple weeks then I slowly go off them, from every night to every other, every third and so on. I was at the point of every other night fir about a week. BUT on Friday I started feeling worse and my BM's got worse progressively since then. Now I'm having basically only blood and liquid with urgency/frequency. I didn't eat anything out of the ordinary (I don't think anyway). I have started taking legal acidophilus and s.boulgari (sp?) about 2-3 wks ago. Does this sound like die off from the probiotics? Could that happen? Ive been on the diet about a year and a half. Maybe its a good old fashioned flare? Not sure what to do... > Thanks in advance, > Meaghan > > Sent from my iPhone >
Guest guest
I don't generally associate bleeding with a die-off reaction; if we were laying bets, I'd say flare. Its possible that the probiotics are not agreeing with you; being a legal supplement is no guarantee that the thousands of existing strains already living in your guts will like these new friends you're introducing. I respond really well to bifidus, which is not recommended but my body seems to like it so you can never tell what your intestinal ecosystem needs given how little we know about how all these different bacteria interact. You might try a supplement that's just acidiophilus, if you can find it, or if you're tolerating the yogourt okay, you might skip the supplement altogether until you're stable again. I make a habit of never introducing a new probiotic unless I'm very stable because it can be such a gamble. fiona > > > > Hello all, > I had been doing well for a while.. Guest guest
Thanks for your responses. I have been doing intro/stage 1 (mostly) the past couple days, stopped the probiotics, and am taking asacol (4/3x) and the cort enemas. The bleeding is better but still all liquid. Pre SCD I felt I was basically always in a flare, and now there a distinction between a flare and remission, but I still get discouraged because I do still have them and it's debilitating and makes my mood very grumpy. Does anyone have any reccommendations for healing any further? I have not tried LDN due to issues with my insurance and the doctor who will prescribe it. How about vitamin E enemas, I heard those work for some? I know this diet works, it's just been so slow for me and I'm sick and tried of being sick and tired! I wish there was more I could do.. Guest guest
It would be helpful to track the flares. Are they less frequent and less severe or don't last as long? If so, then that is improvement. It seems that having periods of remission when there were none before is also improvement. PJ > > Thanks for your responses.
