- - I'm sorry to hear that people haven't been treating you

with the respect you deserve. People can be so cruel sometimes. I'm

shocked that an attorney (an educated man) would say such stupid and

thoughtless remarks to you! You are so brave to have gone thru this

surgery; you deserve an incredible amount of respect from others. I

haven't even gotten my braces on yet, but I dread the stupid comments

and reactions from my workplace when I walk in with my brand new

ceramic braces. I KNOW there will be something said, because

something stupid was said the last time someone got braces, and these

stupid people never seem to learn from their mistakes. Try your best

to ignore the morons; you are a better person than they could ever

be. Also, try not to show any reaction to their stupid comments. Hang

in there, honey!! Have a great weekend! ~~ Diane-- In

Hi

I'm sorry too that you have such insensitive morons in your office!

I really can't give advice as I don't know what I would say to those

comments either! And I'm sure I will get them too - it seems we have

the same problem and are having very similar surgery done. I must

say that I think you look fantastic in your photos - you do look

very different its true, but then thats what we're hoping for isn't

it? Just remember how great you look - I'm really envious of your

new profile :) I know it must be hard to keep explaining the surgery

again and again. I think these people don't mean any harm and they

are just surprised by the difference - I know that doesn't help when

they are making such stupid comments, but just remember to keep

showing off your new smile :)

Kim,

You look great! I have seen all your pictures in your folder.

People are going to act like that because they are amazed by your

new look. I know it's hard to hear rude remarks like that but you

just have to think of all you went through to get there. I think

people just don't really know how to react or say when they see such

a significant change on someone and they are quick to make rude

remarks about it.

Just don't take it so personal. It seems the people that are making

remarks should just keep their mouths shut if they don't have

anything nice to say. I'm 10 days post-op and still swollen also. I

have 3 more weeks before going back to work. I can only imagine what

people will tell me. I work at a pretty large company with many

critical people too. I told them it would be like an extreme make-

over revealing when I go back. They all were nervous and proud of

me.

I'm not sure what you should say to those people who made such

idiotic remarks to you about how you look now. Talk about

inconsiderate people! I looked at your pics and I think you look

absolutely terrific. Before my surgery on June 20th, I always had a

small (retruded) jawline, and therefore had more tissue/skin in my

neck area, and have thought about having it liposuctioned out too. I

didn't have the liposuction done during my surgery. I don't know yet

whether that was a mistake or not, because i still have a pretty

good amount of swelling left. I can't judge just yet what my 'final'

look will even be because I'm just 18 days post op. I know I am

having a bit of trouble adjusting to my new look so far though...

I've never had a chin that 'stuck out' before, so it's a bit of a

shock for me honestly. (my chin was brought forward, along with my

upper and lower jaw).

I can only hope I'll look half as good as you do though :-)

You have a great surgical result and if I were you I wouldn't let

those stupid people's comments bother you too terribly much. I'm

sure that's easier said than done. Maybe they are just intimidated

by how great you look....

Sorry I don't have any great come-back lines for you to shoot back

when they make their dumb comments.

Hang in there, and try not to let ignorant people ruin your day.

Hi ,

It is true, people can be incredibly rude when it comes to surgery

that alters your appearance. I don't know why they feel becomes

open season for comments they would never make otherwise, but when

there is a definate cosmetic result from a surgery, they trip all

over themselves with their comments. Tact goes out the window. But

it really is THEIR problem, not yours. That isn't to say that their

comments don't impact you though. They do. And post op, while you

are still getting used to your new appearance, the impact can be

daunting. I am so sorry for their inexcusable rudeness.

I posted a few weeks ago about having had a facelift. Because of

what I now know is my severe jaw deformity, my sagging skin had a

really obvious and detrimental look on me. Really bad. I felt the

facelift was more than cosmetic for me. My tissue was literally

melting on my jowls and neck. Since I also have a round face, and

have olive skintone, which you appear to have in your pictures also,

I swell big and large with every surgery. People with olive skin

tend to swell big and for a long time post op with surgeries of the

face. So I was really really swollen for a few months post op.

Your pictures from 7-4 appear to have a lot of swelling left also.

It will go down. But hey, your pictures already show what a great

effect the surgery had for you!! And it is getting better. You are

getting there rapidly at this point.

Hang in there. The people you are around will get used to it, and

you will get used to it also. And in a few months, this will be

behind you.

By the way, one thing you can do to minimize the focus on the

surgical result, is to do something different with your hair. I got

a lot of carmel highlights put into my hair, and while my hair is

medium length, I got it cut to have a bouncier appearance. People

focus on that change, and think that is the difference they are

recognizing. A little trick people with facial surgery have found.

I hope that helps.

I think you look fantastic! You did this for you, not them. And

you are getting there rapidly. I am glad you posted so you could

get the positive feedback you have coming for your bravery and

obvious good outcome.

Hugs,

Fran

Thank you soooo much for all of your kind words. It's funny, but

although I don't really know a lot of people on this board, I feel

like I understand and know everyone. I really feel like you are

sincere! Thanks so much. It's such an ordeal to get through and

you really helped a lot with what you said. I'll be a facelift

buddy of yours soon enough. :) Thanks again,

People are mean...and stupid! It amazes me how even when the

dumbest and rudest things come out of people's mouths, they don't

even catch it! They go on and act as though nothing they said was

wrong. I do think people that have surgery like this to make

themselves better are courageous and will come out on top. :)

Actually I was most surprised at people who didnt'.

I had black eyes, puffy face..not much.

But the person that shocked me the most as I think most people i know

are so kind they really look at me like I am normal not puffy, bruised

etc, my friend who is a GP gave me that look of surprise! LOL I

thought anyone who'd be used to seeing patients looking bad..*she

works in emerg.

My favorite comment was people at my dh work knew I had surgery and

that my jaw had to be broken some idiot only heard part of it, missed

the dental surgery aspect....and quietly asked him if he broke it.

Nice.

Isn't it strange how over a period of just hours your whole look

changes and you pretty much say good-bye to your old face? I

struggled with it a lot....and obviously am still struggling a bit.

I am happy with the new look, I'd say, but it has taken a good

amount of time. The whole thing just consumes you! People just

can't get over it. And then you have to eat in front of them....and

forget about it! I'm just happy that science has allowed me (all of

us) to alter what I was given (and didn't like)...and I'm happy that

insurance paid for it! :) Thanks for saying that I look good....I

need that sometimes!
