Guest guest
, How were you able to do it last year, and what is different in your life this year? Is it only motivation, or has your life's structure changed dramatically since last year? I haven't lost but a few pounds in almost a year, but clothes that fit, though snugly, now fit with some room to spare. I chalk that up to my regular appearances at the gym. For an old fart, I am pretty fit! Yesterday was sunny, and I walked two miles. However, . . . I was supposed to wait four weeks after my GB removal before exercising and six weeks before any heavy exercise, but I was getting so stir-crazy from not going to the gym for almost three weeks (IMAGINE THAT!) that I went this morning and had a lighter-than-usual workout. I was supposed to attend some meetings this afternoon, but after the gym and my weekly pilgrimage to COSTCO, I am too shot to trot. So, it's nap-time for this old grouse. --Steve At 9:46 AM -0800 11/11/03, P wrote: >What am I to do to get myself going again >because if I don't get back to exercising I am going >to find myself w/ that 100# back on my body and that >terrifies me. Guest guest
I too have struggled with exercising. Working full time with a busy pre-teen seems to drain my energy. BUT....after two years of procrastinating, I have finally started a program I can do and actually enjoy. It is a video series called Sansone Walk Away The Pounds. The beauty of it is that you do it at home at your convenience. You don't need a huge area to exercise either. No gym, no waiting for the weather to clear up...no excuses, lol. I started with the one-mile tape, worked up to the 2-mile tape and am now happily doing the 3-mile tape!! It includes weighted balls used to tone the upper body and arms during the walking so it is a very good workout. I like it much better than other tapes I have tried because there is no fancy footwork or complicated dance routines to follow. Guest guest
My doc put me at 6 weeks clearance for everything, I could start walking and most anything I was comfortable with when I was ready, but weights and whatnot had to wait for 6 weeks. But all docs are different. Lap RNY April 9, 2004 348/274/140 (begin/current/goal) www.carrieburns.net > I was wondering when everyone got hteir okay to go to the gym. Guest guest
, I had my surgery on July 22nd - I still cannot actually swim though. I really want to though. Good luck! Ella McIntosh wrote: Ella, you and I must have had our surgery around the same time. My doctor gave me the okay to get in my pool and to swim when I was about two and a half weeks. I tried it and felt okay while I was doing it, but that night I was so sore I had to take pain medicine. Ever since, I've been a bit more cautious. Ella Van Tassel wrote:I am about 5 weeks out - luckily I convinced my surgeon to allow me to go in the pool. He finally gave me the okay - however, I am not allowed to swim - because he is afraid I may do damage. So, if you want to just stand in the pool and not physically swim- it should be okay - I haven't had any problems. I also walk around the pool a lot - to get a whirlpool going - and I get my exercise too. Guest guest
I am going to ask a dumb question that may have already been asked, are you on any medication for your artritis? It would be good to get on something to ease your pain either over the counter or prescribed. Guest guest
Shauna, I am so glad that your doing better now. I know your glad to have a break from the sarc monster. Take care To: neurosarcoidosis Sent: Tue, September 14, 2010 6:29:23 PMSubject: exercise Hi, Shauna! I'm glad that you are feeling better. Regarding your bone strength, have you had a bone density scan since being on the Pred? Are you taking any calcium/vit D? If you have access to a pool, swimming, water exercise or just plain water walking are great ways to exercise & are easy on the joints. Ramblin' RoseModerator A merry heart is good medicine. I do try to go back and read the emails from everyone. But I am happy to say I am feeling pretty good these day. I am currently suffering from some symptoms perhaps caused by long term use of the prednisone. Since I have been feeling a little better, I've been trying to workout more at least 4 to 5 times a week. I have noticed that my bones aren't as strong as they should be. At the moment, I am experiencing some pain from walking daily in my hips, knees and in my foot since uping the exercise. Some days I try to just ride the bike or skip the walking and just do my silver sneakers classes if the pain is more that day. I love to walk now because it helps with the stiffness and overall health. I'm going to keep going while I am able and just rest when it becomes a little overwhelming. I went to my eye doctor last week and he said my iritis and uevitis is gone for now and I don't have to come back for a year unless I notice some changes. I am very thankful to God that I am doing as well as I am at the moment and I wish you all have at least a few days that are pain-free. Shauna in atlanta.
