Guest guest
I don't think we go into starvation mode if we only eat when we are hungry. It seems that if our body is able to tell us when it needs fuel, then we should listen to that. I personally don't eat before about 10 in the morning. So I don't think that is a problem either. Guest guest
During the week, when I'm at work, I have a pretty regular schedule of when I eat and drink. But on the weekends, I just eat when I'm hungry and drink when I'm thirsty. It seems to work for me. Part of our disease is to not want to eat til we have a few hours of day under our belts, then the tnedency is to eat til bedtime. That's the bad part. > 2. If I sip WHILE I am eating, I can eat much more food. That's the really bad thing. > Should I really wait the 20 min any way. Guest guest
, My personal experience: If I get too hungry, I eat more than I would have otherwise and usually regret it. If this is not happening to you, I wouldn't sweat when I eat. I absolutely follow the pouch rules about drinking after I eat and wait one full hour. I load up on water before I eat because I know it will be a while. The only exception is a sip of water to take pills or relieve dry mouth. This rule, besides not washing food out, over-stretching the pouch, makes me aware of getting in a lot of water daily. So, my $.02.........eat when you're hungry, water rule is written in stone....no reason anyone should be different on that one. in Austin RNY April 1998 Quick Questions? > I know the rules of the pouch and I am 6 years out and doing good. > My questions are > 1. Guest guest
I can't follow the rules about not drinking water. I have allergies and asthma so my mouth is always dry. I can't eat without drinking, my mouth and throat get too dry and I can't swallow. I find that if I drink while eating--I'm talking drinking normally, the liquid sits on top of my food and causes me a lot of pain--and I end up throwing up. Instead I take teeny sips while eating and it helps me get through the meal--then I have to wait about 30 minutes before I can really drink again, but I have to take small sips before then. I have never had liquids push my food through---they always just sit on top of the food and make my pouch hurt and I end up throwing up. So, no gulping while eating---but I do have to take tiny sips to keep my mouth moist. When I get too hungry and try to eat, I usually can't eat, it's like my pouch shrinks or something if I wait too long. I try not to wait too long between meals, but sometimes with work and stuff I don't get a chance to eat for many hours. When I finally try to eat, I can only eat a couple bites or I get sick. Since I work in a restaurant, the opportunity to graze is always there, but whenever I try to have a meal, I usually can't eat it because as soon as I go to eat, we get customers and by the time I get back to my food it's cold and gross. So, I end up making 3 meals in a shift, and eating less than half of each. That's the pain of having a pouch (and the beauty of it) I have to eat slow, so I never have enough time to finish anything!! :-) Open RNY June 4th, 2002 Cleveland Center for Bariatric Surgery Dr. Sonpal 285/145/where ever my body decides to stop!!
